1. Systems Biology of Type 2 Diabetes in Skeletal Muscle
Sammanfattning : Type 2 diabetes (T2D) is a heterogeneous and complex disease that currently affects more than 350 million people worldwide. A wide range of risk factors influence the pathogenesis of T2D, including genetic and epigenetic components, as well as controllable factors such as diet, obesity, and sedentary lifestyle. LÄS MER
2. Global functional association network inference and crosstalk analysis for pathway annotation
Sammanfattning : Cell functions are steered by complex interactions of gene products, like forming a temporary or stable complex, altering gene expression or catalyzing a reaction. Mapping these interactions is the key in understanding biological processes and therefore is the focus of numerous experiments and studies. LÄS MER
3. Biomarkers of Inflammation and Intestinal Mucosa Pathology in Celiac Disease
Sammanfattning : Celiac disease (CD) is a chronic small intestinal immune-mediated enteropathy triggered by gluten. The only currently available treatment is complying with a lifelong gluten-free diet, which should not be commenced before a CD diagnosis has been established by diagnostic test results (including histopathologic assessment of small intestinal biopsies and CD-specific antibody levels). 4. Regulation of fibroblast activity by keratinocytes, TGF-β and IL-1α : studies in two- and three dimensional in vitro models
Sammanfattning : Dysregulated wound healing is commonly associated with excessive fibrosis. Connective tissue growth factor (CTGF/CCN2) is characteristically overexpressed in fibrotic diseases and stimulated by transforming growth factor-β (TGF-β) in dermal fibroblasts. Reepithelialisation and epidermal wound coverage counteract excessive scar formation. LÄS MER
5. Methods and Applications in Comparative Bacterial Genomics
Sammanfattning : Comparative studies of bacterial genomes, now counting in the hundreds, generate massive amounts of information. In order to support a systematic and efficient approach to genomic analyses, a database driven system with graphic visualization of genomic properties was developed - GenComp. LÄS MER
