  1. 1. Genetic Variations in Type 2 Diabetes and Cardiovascular Disease: A Focus on Gene-Lifestyle Interactions and Mendelian Randomization

    Författare :George Hindy; Diabetes - kardiovaskulär sjukdom; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Type 2 diabetes; cardiovascular disease; coronary heart disease; metabolic syndrome; genetics; gene-lifestyle interactions; diet; TCF7L2; WNT signaling; chromosome 9p21; Mendelian randomization;

    Sammanfattning : Type 2 diabetes (T2D) and cardiovascular disease (CVD) are highly prevalent complex diseases that result from lifestyle and genetic factors. Gene-lifestyle interactions are also believed to contribute to the etiology of these diseases. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Genes, lifestyle and coronary heart disease risk-epidemiological interaction studies

    Författare :Jaana Gustavsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Coronary heart disease; gene-lifestyle interaction; APOE; FTO; GHRL; smoking; physical activity; diet; obesity;

    Sammanfattning : Coronary heart disease (CHD) has multifactorial background involving both genetic and lifestyle factors, but much is still unknown about their interactions. The aim of this thesis was to study interactions focusing on apolipoprotein E (APOE), fat mass and obesity-related (FTO) and ghrelin/obestatin prepropeptide (GHRL) genes, as well as smoking, physical activity and diet. 3. 3. Genetic Determinants of Obesity in Relation to Diet, Weight Gain and Mortality

    Författare :Gull Rukh; Diabetes - kardiovaskulär sjukdom; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; genetic variants; copy number variants; genetic risk score; BMI; gene-diet interactions; annual weight change; substantial weight gain; sugar-sweetened beverages; mortality; Mendelian randomization;

    Sammanfattning : Obesity is one of the major health concerns that has reached epidemic proportions globally. It is generally believed to be a result of interactions between genetic and environmental factors. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Genetic and Environmental Factors in Cardiometabolic Risk

    Författare :Yan Chen; Genetisk och molekylär epidemiologi; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Abstract: Cardiovascular diseases and diabetes mellitus are closely linked by sharing common risk factors, such as obesity, insulin resistance, hypertension and dyslipidaemia. These intermediate risk factors are affected by the joint effects of environment and genetics. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Genetic and Environmental Risk Factors in the Development of Obesity

    Författare :Shafqat Ahmad; Genetisk och molekylär epidemiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Lifestyle behaviors and genetic variation have clear and distinguishable effects on obesity risk; however, the pattern of disease occurrence within and between populations that differ in their genetic and environmental underpinnings suggests obesity is caused in part by the interaction between adverse lifestyle behaviors and the genetic risk profile of an individual. This thesis aims to investigate the joint effects of genetic and environmental (specifically lifestyle) risk factors for obesity and its comorbidities using cross-sectional and longitudinal epidemiological cohorts and clinical trials.
