  1. 6. Extended Mercerization Prior to Carboxymethyl Cellulose Preparation

    Författare :Heléne Almlöf; Ulf Germgård; Björn Kreutz; Monica Ek; Karlstads universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Carboxymethyl cellulose; Mercerization; DS; FT Raman spectroscopy; Filtration ability; Chemical engineering; Kemiteknik; Chemical Engineering; Kemiteknik;

    Sammanfattning : Carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) is produced commercially in a two-stage process consisting of a mercerization stage, where the pulp is treated with alkali in a water alcohol solution, followed by an etherification stage in which monochloroacetic acid is added to the pulp slurry. In this thesis an extended mercerization stage of a spruce ether pulp was investigated where the parameters studied were the ratio of cellulose I and II, concentration of alkali, temperature and retention time. 2. 7. Icodextrin metabolism in peritoneal dialysis : clinical and experimental studies

    Författare :Elvia García López; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Peritoneal dialysis; icodextrin; icodextrin metabolites; ultrafiltration; alphaarnylase activity; gel-filtration HPLC;

    Sammanfattning : Icodextrin (ICO, or polyglucose) is an effective osmotic agent for peritoneal dialysis (PD) patients (pts). ICO is a soluble polymeric form of glucose with an average molecular 'weight range from 13,000 to 19,000 dalton. Glucose is absorbed from the peritoneal cavity by diffusion. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Characterization of novel genes of importance for renal glomerular function and disease

    Författare :Ásmundur Oddsson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :kidney glomerulus;

    Sammanfattning : Glomerular kidney diseases are a major health care burden. The glomerular filtration barrier consists of three layers: the slit diaphragm that bridges the interlocking foot pro- cesses of the podocytes, the glomerular basement membrane and fenestrated endothelial cells. 4. 9. Influences of in vivo and in vitro loading on the proteoglycan synthesis of articular cartilage chondrocytes

    Författare :Mikko Lammi; Markku Tammi; Jukka Finne; Tim Hardingham; Finland Kuopio University of Kuopio Department of Anatomy; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Articular cartilage; proteoglycans; loading; stress; hydrostatic pressure; biokemi; Biochemistry; cell research; cellforskning; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology; ortopedi; Orthopaedics;

    Sammanfattning : In this study, the biosynthesis of proteoglycans (PGs) was examined in articular cartilage of canine hip joint after long-distance running experiment and in bovine chondrocyte cultures during in vitro loading with hydrostatic pressure. In addition, new assays were developed for more sensitive quantitation of glycosaminoglycans (GAGs) and PGs. LÄS MER

  5. 10. Studies on blood esterases : purification and characterization of a butyrylesterase from human erythrocytes

    Författare :Benny Axenfors; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : The object of these studies has been blood esterasesi and especially a butyrylesterase present in human erythrocytes. First, thiophenyl esters were synthesized for use as substrates in assaying arylesterases according to the ElIman procedure. LÄS MER
