  1. 6. An experimental study on the interaction between the neuro-endocrine and immune systems in the gastrointestinal tract

    Författare :Bi-Feng Qian; Eva Ekblad; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; gastrointestinal tract; neuro-endocrine system; substance P; vasoactive intestinal polypeptide; vagus nerves; mucosal immune system; T lymphocytes; cytokines; inflammation; mouse;

    Sammanfattning : The mucosa lining of the gastrointestinal (GI) tract is in immediate contact with food nutrients to allow a rapid and efficient digestion and absorption and at the same time protects against the incessant risk of attack from pathogenic microbes. Maintenance of normal physiological activities in the GI tract is dependent on a number of regulatory interactions between the nervous, endocrine, and immune systems, as well as environmental and genetic factors. 2. 7. Chemoradiation in Gastrointestinal Cancer

    Författare :Adalsteinn Gunnlaugsson; Bröstcancer-genetik; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Biliary tract cancer; capecitabine; cholangiocarcinoma; chemoradiation; colon cancer; enteritis 5-fluorouracil; gallbladder cancer; oxaliplatin; pancreatic cancer; rectal cancer.;

    Sammanfattning : Locally advanced inextirpable gastrointestinal cancer has poor prognosis and is associated with high morbidity. One treatment option is to use radiotherapy, often combined with chemotherapy (chemoradiation), either as preoperative treatment to facilitate surgery or in the palliative setting to relieve symptoms. 3. 8. Androgens and progesterone in tissues and the gastrointestinal tract - Mapping of tissue-specific sex steroid levels in mice

    Författare :Hannah Colldén; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; androgens; progesterone; intracrinology; gastrointestinal tract; gut microbiota;

    Sammanfattning : Sex steroids such as androgens can exert both positive and negative effects in tissues and are important in physiology and pathophysiological states of men and women. Androgens originate mainly from the gonads. LÄS MER

  4. 9. Understanding the gastrointestinal mucus and its impact on drug absorption

    Författare :Vicky Barmpatsalou; Christel Bergström; Eva Karlsson; Betty Lomstein Pedersen; Hanne Mørck Nielsen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; mucus; gastrointestinal; pigs; dogs; physiology; colonic; in vitro assay; drug diffusion; macromolecules;

    Sammanfattning : The gastrointestinal mucus is a hydrogel lining the luminal side of the gastrointestinal epithelium. Mucus is vital for gut homeostasis because it protects the epithelium from the noxious external environment. LÄS MER

  5. 10. Exploring the microbiota of the gastrointestinal tract

    Författare :Jie Xu; Avdelningen för livsmedel och läkemedel; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Microbiota; Probiotics; Blood pressure; High fat diet; Oat; Green tea; Berry; Fiber; Exopolysaccharides; Ulcerative colitis;

    Sammanfattning : Abstract: Balanced microbiota of the gastrointestinal (GI) tract is important for maintaining health of the host. Altered gut microbiota have been found to be associated with various life-style induced and other intestinal inflammatory diseases. Gut microbiota is viewed as a metabolic organ and considered as new target for therapies. LÄS MER
