  1. 11. Applications of Magnetic Tracers in the Human Lung and Gastrointestinal Tract

    Författare :Mikael Forsman; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; inverse solution; gastrointestinal motility; inhaled particles; gastric emptying; welding dust; MPG; pulmonary clearance; occupational health; magnetopneumography; multipole analysis; transit time;

    Sammanfattning : The use of ferrimagnetic material as a tracer represents a noninvasive approach in physiological measurements. Concerning the lung, magnetopneumography, MPG, is a unique technique to estimate retained dust in the lung, using the magnetizable dust fraction as a tracer. First a strong constant magnetic field is briefly applied to the thorax. LÄS MER

  2. 12. The gastrointestinal tract in cardiac anaesthesia and intensive care : Clinical and experimental studies

    Författare :Jenny Seilitz; Kristofer Nilsson; Kjell Jansson; Birger Axelsson; Måns Edström; Sten Rubertsson; Örebro universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Acute Gastrointestinal Injury grade; biomarkers; extracorporeal circulation; splanchnic perfusion; inotropic drugs; vasoactive drugs; lactate; lactate pyruvate ratio;

    Sammanfattning : Gastrointestinal (GI) complications after cardiac surgery have a substantial impact on outcome. The aims were to investigate the frequency of, and methods for detecting, GI dysfunction after cardiac surgery and its relation to outcome, and the impact of vasoactive drugs on the GI tract in experimental cardiogenic shock. 3. 13. Characterization of Escherichia coli colonizing the gastrointestinal tract and urinary tract catheters

    Författare :Xiaoda Wang; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Commensal and pathogenic bacteria express biofilm behaviour which is thought to alter bacteria-host interactions and contribute to colonization and persistence. In the current thesis, the epidemiology of biofilm formation in gastrointestinal commensal Escherichia coli and E. coli isolated from urinary catheters is described. LÄS MER

  4. 14. Gastrointestinal mucosal protective mechanisms : Mudolatory effects of Heliobacter pyroli on the gastric mucus gel barrier and mucosal blood flow in vivo

    Författare :Christer Atuma; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Physiology and anatomy; mucus gel layer; mucosal blood flow; mucus thickness; chronic infection; rat; platelet activating factor; mast cell; nitric oxide; nitric oxide synthase; ketotifen; intra-vital microscopy; microelectrode; laser-Doppler flowmetry; L-NNA; Fysiologi och anatomi; Physiology and pharmacology; Fysiologi och farmakologi; Physiology; fysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : The gastrointestinal mucus gel layer and blood flow are two important mechanisms for protection at the pre-epithelial and sub-epithelial levels, respectively. Helicobacter pylori might circumvent these mechanisms and elicit a chronic inflammatory response with consequent ulcers in the stomach and duodenum. LÄS MER

  5. 15. The emotional motor system and gastrointestinal symptoms

    Författare :Pontus Karling; Lars Agréus; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Anxiety; ANS; autonomic nervous system; cortisol; DST; emotional motor system; functional; gastrointestinal symptoms; GSRS-IBS; gut; HADS; heart rate variability; HPA axis; IBS; irritable bowel syndrome; stress; unipolar depression; val158met COMT polymorphism; Gastroenterology; Gastroenterologi;

    Sammanfattning : There is a significant comorbidity between anxiety/depression and functional gastrointestinal syndromes, such as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and functional dyspepsia. The pathophysiological link between emotions and the gut is not known. LÄS MER
