  1. 1. Mucus and mucins during gastrointestinal infections

    Författare :Nazanin Navabi; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; mucin; gastrointestinal cell lines; mucus layer; secreted mucin; cell surface mucin; H. pylori; C. rodentium; ETEC; mucin secretion; goblet cells;

    Sammanfattning : The gastrointestinal tract is protected by a continuously secreted mucus layer formed by mucin glycoproteins. The mucus layer and mucins change dynamically during infection. The main focus of this thesis was to investigate the changes in mucin and the mucus layer in the gastrointestinal tract during infection with the gastrointestinal pathogens C. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Molecular associations and transport properties of amphiphiles and gastrointestinal mucin in aqueous solution

    Författare :Géraldine Lafitte; Fysikalisk kemi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Fysikalisk kemi; transport properties; diffusion NMR; Magnetic resonance imaging; Physical chemistry; hydrophobic association; electrostatic repulsion; gel; Mucin; Surfactant;

    Sammanfattning : An effective uptake/absorption of drug formulations involve many processes; one being the transport of the active molecule through the mucus layer. The mucus layer is a complex mixture of biological molecules. Among them, mucin is the molecule that mainly provides the gel properties of the layer. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Helicobacter pylori Sialic Acid-Specific Surface Lectin

    Författare :Siiri Hirmo; Enheten för infektionssjukdomar; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; bakteriologi; mycology; Mikrobiologi; virology; bacteriology; haemagglutinin; Helicobacter pylori; sialic acid; sialidase; gastrointestinal mucin; milk glycoprotein; Microbiology; resonant mirror biosensor; virologi; mykologi;

    Sammanfattning : Helicobacter pylori is a gastric pathogen colonising the gastric mucus layer and epithelium of gastric tissue and is associated with chronic type B gastritis and peptic ulcer disease. The attachment of H. pylori to gastric epithelial cells involves several structures recognised by specific bacterial surface proteins. LÄS MER

  4. 4. The Relationship between Transmembrane Mucins, Ion Channels and PDZ Adaptor Proteins in the Small Intestine

    Författare :Thaher Pelaseyed; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; intestine; mucin; MUC3; MUC17; SEA; PDZK1; GOPC; CFTR; NHE3;

    Sammanfattning : The human body is continuously exposed to challenges from the surrounding world. In analogy with the skin, mucus is a well-organized and highly regulated barrier composed of polymeric and O-glycosylated mucins that protects luminal organs such as the gastrointestinal tracts from the outer milieu. 5. 5. Analytical approaches to the study of mucin glycosylation

    Författare :Kristina A Thomsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :mucins; O-linked glycosylation; mass spectrometry; cystic fibrosis; salivary mucins; sulfated oligosaccharides.;

    Sammanfattning : Mucins constitute the major protein component of the mucus layer, which covers the epithelial surfaces of the respiratory, the gastrointestinal and the genitourinary tracts. Mucins carry O-linked oligosaccharides which contribute to the molecule by 50-80 weight percent, and these can be highly diverse, with 50-150 different oligosaccharides found on a purified mucin population.
