1. The role of wastewater in surveillance and emergence of antibiotic resistant bacteria
Sammanfattning : As antibiotic resistance spreads among bacterial pathogens, it reduces treatment options and increases treatment failures of infectious diseases. Strategies employed to reduce this spread or adapt to its consequences need to be based on reliable surveillance data which is lacking in many countries, often due to limited resources. LÄS MER
2. Evolution of acetylcholine receptors and study of the anatomy of the mouse brain reward system
Sammanfattning : This thesis work is divided in two parts. In the first part, I make use of the transgenic TRPV1-Cre mouse line as a tool to investigate the midbrain ventral tegmental area (VTA). LÄS MER
3. Regulation of protein degradation by virus derived repeated amino acid sequences
Sammanfattning : The ubiquitin-proteasome pathway plays a central role in the controlled degradation of short-lived and regulatory proteins important m a variety of cellular processes, including antigen presentation and combating viral infections. The presentation of antigenic peptides derived from ubiquitin-proteasome dependent degradation of vital proteins to MHC class I restricted cytotoxic T cells is a central component of antiviral responses. 4. Modulation of cellular and viral functions in Epstein-Barr virus infected cells
Sammanfattning : The aim of the study was to investigate the interplay of cellular and viral genes in Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) infected cells. Two aspects of this interaction have been investigated. The first aspect is related to the expression of major histocompatibility complex (MHC) class I molecules in virus infected malignant cells. LÄS MER
5. Interaction of the genome maintenance proteins of oncogeneic herpesviruses with cellular chromatin
Sammanfattning : The Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) nuclear antigen (EBNA)-1 is the only viral protein expressed in all virus-infected cells and EBV-associated malignancies. Similar to the genome maintenance proteins (GMPs) of other gamma-herpesviruses, EBNA1 binds to both viral and cellular DNA and controls the replication and transcription of the viral genome. LÄS MER
