    Sammanfattning : A description and detailed tests of a numerical code for simulations of galaxy formation is presented. The dynamics is followed with fully adaptive and Lagrangian Smooth Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH) combined with a gravitational tree method. The severe numerical problem of sub-resolution clustering is solved by merging of gas particles. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : Numerical studies related to high-frequency VLBI observations of quasars and dynamics of barred spiral galaxies have been performed. Data from a global 100 GHz VLBI experiment has been reduced and a radio image of the quasar 3C 446 with the highest resolution achieved to date has been produced. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : This thesis, which consists of 7 articles and a summary, deals with different aspects of the three galaxies NGC 1365, NGC 1512 and NGC 3309. Article 1 is a study of the nuclear spiral in the barred spiral galaxy NGC 1512. The velocities derived from optical spectra indicate an expansion of this spiral. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : Low Ionisation Nuclear Emission-line Regions (LINERs)are found in one third of the galaxies in the local bright galaxy population. The LINERs typically recide in the central parts of their host galaxies, and occur in early type elliptical galaxies as well as late type spiral galaxies. LÄS MER
