6. Synthesis, Surface Modification, and Characterization of Metal Oxide Nanoparticles : Nanoprobes for Signal Enhancement in Biomedical Imaging
Sammanfattning : In this thesis we investigate crystalline metal oxide nanoparticles of our own design to obtain nanoprobes for signal enhancement and bioimaging purposes. We report fabrication, surface modification and characterization of nanoparticles based on zinc (Zn), and rare earths (i.e. gadolinium (Gd) and europium (Eu)) singly and in combination. LÄS MER
7. Colloidal synthesis of metal oxide nanocrystals and thin films
Sammanfattning : A main driving force behind the recent years’ immense interest in nanoscience and nanotechnology is the possibility of achieving new material properties and functionalities within, e.g., material physics, biomedicine, sensor technology, chemical catalysis, energy storing systems, and so on. 8. Metal Oxide Nanoparticles for Contrast Enhancement in Magnetic Resonance Imaging : Synthesis, Functionalization and Characterization
Sammanfattning : This thesis work focuses on the design and production of nanoparticle based contrast agents for signal enhancement in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Three different synthesis routes are explored, primarily to produce crystalline gadolinium oxide (Gd2O3) nanoparticles, and surface modification is done to obtain stable, dispersible, biocompatible probes inducing high proton relaxivities. 9. Functional Performance of Gadolinium Zirconate/Yttria Stabilized Zirconia Multi-Layered Thermal Barrier Coatings
Sammanfattning : Yttria stabilized zirconia (YSZ) is the state-of-the-art ceramic top coat material used for thermal barrier coating (TBC) applications. Demand for higher efficiency in gas turbine engines has led to a continuous increase in the gas in let temperature. However, this increase in temperature has pushed YSZ to its upper limit. LÄS MER
10. Photoemission and Characterization of Neutrophils and Nanoparticles : Energy Mapping and Elemental Composition with sub-µm Resolution
Sammanfattning : Imaging and visualization of cells and tissues are important when studying various biological phenomena. The ability to provide spatial information with molecular and chemical specificity may increase our insight and understanding of biological problems within life sciences. LÄS MER
