16. Regulation of normal and cancer cells as a base for cell cycle-targeted therapy
Sammanfattning : The majority of current treatments used for treatment of prostate cancer (PCa) and leukemia are often limited to a narrow subsets of treated patients. As such, there still remains a significant scope for gaining deeper understanding of molecular mechanisms underlying cancer metastasis for improvement of targeted treatment. LÄS MER
17. DNA-dependent protein kinase in normal and malignant cells : with special reference to anti-tumour agent sensitivity
Sammanfattning : The DNA-dependent protein kinase (DNA-PK) is a DNA double strand break (DSB) repair enzyme, essential for the cellular response to DNA damaging agents. DNA-PK is also of importance for lymphoid development, since it includes two processes, V(D)J recombination and lg switch recombination, during which DSBs are naturally occurring events. LÄS MER
18. Insulin-like growth factor 1 receptor, novel functions and future possibilities
Sammanfattning : Insulin like growth factor-1 receptor (IGF-1R) has been shown to be important for cancer cell growth and survival, and is often overexpressed in malignant and premalignant tissues. Ligand binding to IGF-1R induces transphosphorylation and activation of the receptor, leading to subsequent activation of the phosphatidyl inositol-3 kinase (PI3K), the mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) and the 14-3-3 pathways. 19. Cellular and molecular responses of periodontal connective tissue cells to Actinobacillus actinomycetemcomitans cytolethal distending toxin
Sammanfattning : Actinobacillus actinomycetemcomitans is present in elevated proportions and numbers in dental bacterial biofilms of patients with localized aggressive periodontitis. This variant of periodontal disease, occurring in adolescents and young adults, is characterized by rapid and severe destruction of the connective tissues and bone supporting the teeth, eventually culminating in tooth loss. 20. Effects of polyamine pool manipulation on genes expressed during the cell cycle
Sammanfattning : The polyamines - putrescine, spermidine and spermine - are polycations found within cells. They have been shown to be essential for optimal cell proliferation and cell survival. Cells maintain their polyamine levels in a well-regulated system involving biosynthesis, catabolism and uptake/excretion. LÄS MER
