1. Precision mass measurements : Final limit of SMILETRAP I and the developments of SMILETRAP II
Sammanfattning : The subject of this thesis is high-precision mass-measurements performed with Penning trap mass spectrometers (PTMS). In particular it describes the SMILETRAP I PTMS and the final results obtained with it, the masses of 40Ca and that of the proton. LÄS MER
2. Transport in nanowire-based quantum dot systems: Heating electrons and confining holes
Sammanfattning : Quantum dots embedded in an electronic circuit allow precise control over the charge transport behaviour of the system: Charge carriers can be individually trapped or precisely shuffled between a series of quantum dots in a strictly sequential manner. This introduces ideal conditions to study fundamental quantum physics and such devices are in the focus of extensive efforts to develop quantum information related applications. LÄS MER
3. Computational Atomic Structures Toward Heavy Element Research
Sammanfattning : We are interested in complex electronic structures of various atomic and ionics systems. We use an ab initioapproach, the multiconfigurational Dirac-Hartree-Fock (MCDHF), to compute atomic structures and properties. LÄS MER
4. Transport Studies of Local-Gate Defined Quantum Dots in Nanowires
Sammanfattning : This thesis focuses on electrical transport in semiconductor InAs nanowires grown by chemical beam epitaxy. Initially, transport length scales of homogeneous InAs n-type nanowires are characterized by low-temperature magnetoconductance measurements. The measurements show phase-coherent conductivity corrections. LÄS MER
5. Windows : Optical Performance and Energy Efficiency
Sammanfattning : This thesis treats angle-resolved optical properties and the energy efficiency of windows. A theoretical evaluation of optical and thermal properties of windows is briefly surveyed and the energy performance of a large selection of windows, under different conditions, is examined. In particular, angle dependent optical properties are analysed. LÄS MER
