  1. 6. The Influence of the Adenosine A1-receptor on Tubuloglomerular Feedback and Renin Release

    Författare :Russell Brown; A Erik G Persson; Pontus Persson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Physiology; adenosine; tubuloglomerular feedback; renin release; blood pressure; micropuncture; Fysiologi; Physiology; Fysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : The kidneys play a vital role in the maintenance of extracellular fluid and electrolyte balance and blood pressure. Adenosine, acting through the adenosine A1-receptor (A1R), and nitric oxide have been implicated in several of the regulatory mechanisms in the kidney. LÄS MER

  2. 7. Train your brain : updating, transfer, and neural changes

    Författare :Erika Dahlin; Lars Nyberg; Anna Stigsdotter Neely; Torkel Klingberg; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; cognitive training; executive functioning; transfer; fMRI; brain system; young adults; elderly; practice; neural correlates; individual differences; Experimental brain research; Experimentell hjärnforskning; Cognitive science; Kognitionsforskning; fysiologi; Physiology;

    Sammanfattning : An initial aim of this thesis was to determine whether training of a specific executive function (updating) produces improvements in performance on trained and transfer tasks, and whether the effects are maintained over time. Neural systems underlying training and transfer effects were also investigated and one question considered is whether transfer depends on general or specific neural overlap between training and transfer tasks. 3. 8. Signaling via Orexin Receptors : A Pharmacological Study

    Författare :Tomas Holmqvist; Jyrki Kukkonen; Karl Åkerman; Gunnar Flemström; Per Svenningsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Physiology; orexin; receptors; calcium; cAMP; adenylyl cyclases; Fysiologi; Physiology; Fysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : The orexin receptors are a pair of newly discovered G-protein coupled receptors which are activated by the neuropeptides orexins and play a role in sleep/vigilance, apetite/metabolism and neuroendocrine regulation. On a cellular level receptor activation results in, to name but a few effects, elevation of intracellular calcium and depolarisation. LÄS MER

  4. 9. Context dependent adaptation of biting behavior in human

    Författare :Anders Johansson; Benoni Edin; Karl-Gunnar Westberg; Peter Svensson; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; EMG; bite force; human; mastication; muscles; jaw opening reflex; motor control; reflex modulation; periodontal attachment loss; periodontitis; fysiologi; Physiology;

    Sammanfattning : The focus of this thesis was to study an action that humans perform regularly, namely, to hold a morsel between the teeth and split it into smaller pieces. Three different issues related to this biting behavior were addressed:  (1) the effect of reduced periodontal tissues on food holding and splitting behavior; (2) the behavioral consequences of performing different bite tasks with different functional requirements, i. 5. 10. Structural and functional changes in the brain after surgically repaired median nerve injury

    Författare :Per F. Nordmark; Roland S. Johansson; Henrik Ehrsson; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Humans; Hand; Touch; Peripheral nerve injury; Magnetic resonance imaging; Somatosensory Cortex; Cortical plasticity; fysiologi; Physiology; handkirurgi; hand surgery;

    Sammanfattning : Despite the best available surgical repair, traumatic median nerve injury within the forearm typically causes lifelong impairment in hand function. This stems from an inadequate reinnervation of the nerves supporting sensory functions of the thumb, index and long finger, and of nerves supplying intrinsic hand muscles. LÄS MER
