Sammanfattning : This thesis addresses to what extent childhood family composition – the number of siblings and whether the parents live together, or whether there are non-parental adults and/or half-siblings in the household or not – contributes to variations in adult earnings. Sammanfattning : All three essays in this thesis are concerned with the interrelation of family, gender and labour market outcomes. The first paper investigates family earnings mobility between parents and sons, and parents and daughters, highlighting the role of assortative mating. 3. Learning and earning: studies on a cohort of Swedish men
Sammanfattning : Earnings of Swedish Young Men: Griliches’ (1976) study on the wage premium for formal schooling in America is replicated on the Swedish Malmö Longitudinal Study, an individual data base with unusually good ability measures collected at young age. Sammanfattning : Essay I: This paper studies the effect of air pollution on infant health in Sweden. Combining register panel data on birth outcomes and family characteristics with pollution data, I estimate the effect of particulate matter (PM10) on several birth outcomes that previously have been shown to be predictive of future outcomes.
