  1. 6. Catalytic and Structural Properties of Heme-containing Fatty Acid Dioxygenases : Similarities of Fungal Dioxygenases and Cyclooxygenases

    Författare :Ulrike Garscha; Ernst Oliw; Per-Johan Jakobsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; dioxygenase; prostaglandin H synthase; Gaeumannomyces graminis; Aspergilli; hydroperoxide isomerase; linoleate diol synthase; cytochrome P450; oxylipin; Pharmaceutical pharmacology; Farmaceutisk farmakologi; Farmaceutisk farmakologi; Pharmaceutical Pharmacology;

    Sammanfattning : 7,8-Linoleate diol synthase (7,8-LDS) of the take-all pathogen of wheat, Gaeumannomyces graminis, converts linoleic acid to 8R-hydroperoxyoctadecadienoic acid (8-HPODE) by 8-dioxygenase activity (8-DOX), and further isomerizes the hydroperoxide to 7S,8S-dihydroxyoctadecadienoic acid (7,8-DiHODE) by hydroperoxide isomerase activity. Sequence alignment showed homology to prostaglandin H synthase (PGHS), and both enzymes share structural and catalytic properties. LÄS MER

  2. 7. On the investigation of chemical parameters reflecting microbial activity linked to nutrient availability in forest soil

    Författare :Madelen Olofsson; Dan Bylund; Bengt-Gunnar Jonsson; Bjarne W. Strobel; Mittuniversitetet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Boreal forest; electrospray ionization; fungal biomass; hydrophilic interaction chromatography; hydroxamate siderophores; liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry; mineral amendment; aromatic acids; podzol soil;

    Sammanfattning : As agrarian society developed, the most fertile soils able to sustain the nutritional requirements needed for high crop yield were assigned to farming, while the more penurious soils were left to uphold the forest ecosystems. Some temperate forests are developed on acidic soils considered to be nutrient poor, as much of the inorganic nutrients are entrapped in poorly weatherable soil minerals and not easily accessed by plant roots. 3. 8. Pharmaceutical And Immunollogical Challenge Of Fungal Pathogens

    Författare :Marios Stylianou; Constantin F. Urban; Christophe d' Enfert; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; mast cells; Candida albicans; yeast to hyphal form; antifungal drugs; repurposed drugs; HTS;

    Sammanfattning : Incidences of fungal infections are on the rise in immunosuppressed people. Predominant causative agents for these mycoses are species of the genus Candida, including Candida albicans, Candida glabrata and Candida dublieniensis. Despite a wide range of emerging pathogens, C. albicans remains the leading cause. LÄS MER

  4. 9. Novel biologically active compounds by semisynthesis with fungal metabolites

    Författare :Johan Eriksson Bajtner; Centrum för analys och syntes; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Organisk kemi; Organic chemistry; bioactive compounds.; isovelleral; podoscyphic acid; Natural products; semisynthesis;

    Sammanfattning : Natural products have been shown to be an important source of novel compounds for the development of new drugs and pesticides. However, many biologically active natural products contain reactive functionalities that make them toxic. LÄS MER

  5. 10. Wood-Decomposing Fungi: Soil colonization, effects on indigenous bacterial community in soil and hydroxyl radical production

    Författare :Karin Tornberg; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ecology; hydroxyl radicals; fungal growth; interactions; soil colonization; bacterial community; soil; brown-rot fungi; wood-decomposing fungi; white-rot fungi; Ekologi; Microbiology; bacteriology; virology; mycology; Mikrobiologi; bakteriologi; virologi; mykologi;

    Sammanfattning : The extracellular enzyme activities of wood-decomposing basidiomycetes are essential for wood degradation, but are also able to degrade various recalcitrant organic pollutants. The possible application of wood-decomposing fungi in bioremediation has increased the interest in understanding their growth and activity in soil. LÄS MER
