1. Fungal DNA, Mould, Dampness and Allergens in Schools and Day Care Centers and Respiratory Health
Sammanfattning : Day care centers and schools are important environments for children, but few epidemiological studies exist from these environments. Mould, dampness, fungal DNA and allergens levels in these environments and respiratory health effects in school children were investigated in this thesis. LÄS MER
2. Oxidative damage and the DNA glycosylase MutYH
Sammanfattning : The DNA glycosylase MutYH is highly conserved throughout evolution, and homologs are found in most eukaryotes and prokaryotes examined. MutYH functions as a base excision repair DNA glycosylase that excises adenines misincorporated opposite 8-oxo-7,8-dihydro-2′-deoxyguanosine (8-oxodG), one of the most stable products of oxidative DNA damage. 3. Development of molecular techniques for fungal diagnostic research
Sammanfattning : Fungi are present everywhere in indoor and outdoor environments. Many fungi are toxigenic or pathogenic that may cause various public health concerns. Rapid detection, quantification and characterization of fungi in living and working environments are essential for exposure risk assessment to safe guard public health. LÄS MER
4. Fungal molecular ecology in boreal forests and challenges associated with unidentified environmental DNA sequences
Sammanfattning : Many fungi are characteristically difficult to observe and collect, making the process of documenting the world’s fungal diversity challenging. The vast majority of fungal species are undescribed. LÄS MER
5. Genomics of Arbuscular Mycorrhizal Fungi : Expanding knowledge, one assembly at a time
Sammanfattning : Most life forms that inhabit Earth today are still unknown or are difficult to study. Accessing their DNA can give us information of their biology, ecology, and evolution, even when unculturable. The research here presented focused on method development for genomic research of non-model organisms. LÄS MER
