  1. 16. Evolutionary consequences of maternal effects and stress

    Författare :Piotr K. Rowiński; Björn Rogell; Karl Gotthard; Katja Räsänen; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; parental effects; meta-analysis; development time; bet-hedging; brain size; evolutionary potential; unpredictable environments; zoologisk ekologi; Animal Ecology;

    Sammanfattning : Maternal effects occur when maternal environment or phenotype influence offspring phenotype, in addition to genetic contribution of the mother. As maternal effects often influence phenotypes that are under natural selection, they hence have evolutionary consequences. LÄS MER

  2. 17. Hoarseness in ten-year-old children : perceptual characteristics, prevalence and etiology

    Författare :Elisabeth Sederholm; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Child voice; hoarseness; perceptual analysis; voice quality; visual analog scales; connected speech; sustained vowels; prevalence; acute hoarseness; chronic hoarseness; videolaryngoscopy; stroboscopy; incomplete glottal closure; vocal nodules; voice;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of the present investigation was to explore the occurrence of and factors related to hoarseness in ten- year-old children. In order to establish the prevalence of hoarseness in a group of normal children, a method to distinguish atypical from normal voices was introduced and the perceptual characteristics of hoarseness were identified. 3. 18. Speech and voice characteristics in multiple sclerosis and cervical spinal cord injury : descriptive studies and effects of respiratory training

    Författare :Kerstin Johansson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :acoustic analysis;

    Sammanfattning : Introduction and aims: Respiratory function may be impaired in multiple sclerosis (MS) and cervical spinal cord injury (CSCI), but few studies have reported voice and speech data before and after respiratory training in MS and CSCI. The aims of these studies were therefore to provide a detailed description of voice and speech following CSCI, and to evaluate effects of glossopharyngeal breathing (glossopharyngeal pistoning for lung insufflation, GI) and expiratory muscle strength training (EMST) on respiration, voice and speech, and communication in individuals with MS or CSCI. 4. 19. The decline of great Arctic charr in Lake Vättern : empirical and theoretical analyses of suggested causes

    Författare :Malin Setzer; Tomas Jonsson; Bo Ebenman; Mark C. Emmerson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Naturvetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Human activity is affecting species and ecosystems all over the world. In aquatic systems negative trends can be seen for many fish stocks and potential consequences of this, for ecosystem structure and functions, are of particular concern. LÄS MER
