  1. 6. The spatial and temporal dynamics of plant-animal interactions in the forest herb Actaea spicata

    Författare :Hugo von Zeipel; Johan Ehrlén; Ove Eriksson; Saskya van Nouhuys; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Eupithecia immundata; parasitoid; rodent; seed predation; dispersal; recruitment; multitrophic; metapopulation; trophic cascades; community complexity; Biology; Biologi; Plant Ecology; växtekologi;

    Sammanfattning : Landscape effects on species performance currently receives much attention. Habitat loss and fragmentation are considered major threats to species diversity. Deciduous forests in southern Sweden are previous wooded pastures that have become species-rich communities appearing as islands in agricultural landscapes, varying in species composition. LÄS MER

  2. 7. Preharvest Conditions Affecting Apple Quality, Antioxidant Responses and Susceptibility to the Infection by Grey mould (Botrytis cinerea)

    Författare :Tuyet Bui Thi Anh; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Malus x domestica; grey mould; preharvest weather; apples’ quality; antioxidants; harvest year;

    Sammanfattning : Apple fruits are rich in vitamin C and other antioxidants, which are beneficial for human health. During postharvest storage, there are losses as a result of diseases such as grey mould, caused by the fungus Botrytis cinerea. The present work has investigated how to obtain a high quality of apples, allowing long-term storage. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Plant-animal interactions and seed output of two insectpollinated herbs

    Författare :Anna R. Waites; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; plant reproduction; pollen limitation; pollinator behaviour; heterostyly; seed predation; Lythrum salicaria; Pedicularis palustris; stigma receptivity; self-pollen; Terrestrial; freshwater and marine ecology; Terrestisk; limnisk och marin ekologi;

    Sammanfattning : I combined comparative and experimental studies in the field and in the greenhouse to examine factors influencing reproductive success in two insect-pollinated herbs, the tristylous, selfincompatible perennial Lythrum salicaria and the self-compatible, biennial Pedicularis palustris. More specifically, I explored (i) the effects of plant population characteristics on the intensity and outcome of interactions with pollinators and seed predators, (ii) whether flower morphology affects duration of stigma receptivity, and (iii) whether damage-induced reduction in floral display reduces pollinator visitation and increases pollen limitation. 4. 9. Genetic variation, polyploidy and hybridization in Scandinavian Anthericum ramosum and A. liliago (Anthericaceae)

    Författare :Gabrielle Rosquist; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Systematic botany; inbreeding depression; gene flow; introgression; hybridization; morphology; isozyme; allozyme; allele frequencies; population fragmentation; genetic diversity; geographic variation; Anthericum; Allopolyploidy; taxonomy; phytogeography; chemotaxonomy. Physiology of nonvascular plants; Systematisk botanik; taxonomi; morfologi; kemotaxonomi. Växters fysiologi inte kärlväxter .;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis, I investigate the differences in breeding system, levels of genetic variation and hierarchical structure of genetic diversity between Anthericum ramosum and A. liliago. The two species differ in ploidy level and flowering time, but have similar habitat preferences, reproductive biology and geographic distributions in Scandinavia. LÄS MER

  5. 10. Neuroethology of olfaction in Drosophila : evolution and specialization

    Författare :Irene Ibba; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : In insects olfaction is a primary sensory modality. As a result changes in the animal’s ecology are often paralleled by modifications in the olfactory system. Using a comparative approach between the generalist Drosophila melanogaster and its sibling specialist D. sechellia, I looked at the coding properties of the olfactory system. LÄS MER
