  1. 1. Accidental hypothermia and local cold injury : physiological and epidemiological studies on risk

    Författare :Helge Brändström; Michael Haney; Urban Wiklund; Anders Eriksson; Karl-Axel Ängquist; Ola Winsö; Sigridur Kalman; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; cold-related injuries; hypothermia; frostbite; cold adaptation; rewarming; autonomic nervous system; heart rate variability;

    Sammanfattning : Background: (Papers I and II) The objectives were to first determine incidence and contributing factors to cold-related injuries in northern Sweden, both those that led to hospitalization and those that led to fatality.  (Papers III and IV) A further aim was to assess post-cooling hand-rewarming responses and effects of training in a cold environment, both on fingertip rewarming and on function of the autonomic nervous system, to evaluate if there was adaptation related to prolonged occupational cold exposure. 2. 2. Effects of cold and hand-arm vibration on the peripheral neurosensory and vascular system : an occupational perspective

    Författare :Daniel Carlsson; Jens Wahlström; Tohr Nilsson; Erik Nordh; Hans Pettersson; Tiina Ikäheimo; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Hand-arm vibration; Raynaud’s phenomenon; paresthesia; sensation of cold; hand-arm vibration syndrome; quantitative sensory testing; cold sensitivity; cold; cold exposure; frostbite; Sweden; cold injury; military; Occupational and Environmental Medicine; arbets- och miljömedicin;

    Sammanfattning : Background In Swedish working life, exposure to cold and exposure to hand-arm vibration (HAV) are two common health hazards. Health effects of HAV in the neurosensory, vascular and musculoskeletal systems are collectively denoted hand-arm vibration syndrome (HAVS), and have been thoroughly studied. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Cold exposure and health : A study on neurological and vascular hand symptoms in northern Sweden

    Sammanfattning : Background: Living in a cold climate is associated with several adverse health effects. The main purpose of this thesis was to describe cold exposure characteristics in northern Sweden, and investigate the associations between such exposure and the reporting of neurological and vascular hand symptoms.
