  1. 1. The role of Southern Ocean fronts in the global climate system

    Författare :Robert M. Graham; Agatha de Boer; Alberto Naveira Garabato; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Southern Ocean; fronts; jets; Antarctic Circumpolar Current; wind stress; chlorophyll; iron; Last Glacial Maximum; Marine Geology; maringeologi;

    Sammanfattning : The location of fronts has a direct influence on both the physical and biological processes in the Southern Ocean. However, until recently fronts have been poorly resolved by available data and climate models. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Arnold-type invariants of curves and wave fronts on surfaces

    Författare :Vladimir Tchernov; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Mathematics; Immersion of the circle; generic immersion; curves on surfaces; Legendrian immersion; Legendrian knot; wave fronts on surfaces; Whitney index; Maslov index; regular homotopy; perestroikas of plane curves and fronts; Arnold s basic invariants of plane curves and fronts; finite order invariants; Vassiliev invariants; homotopy groups of the space of curves on a surface; MATEMATIK; MATHEMATICS; MATEMATIK; matematik; Mathematics;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis is devoted to the study of invariants of generic curves and wave fronts on surfaces. The invariants J± and St were axiomatically defined by Arnold as numerical characteristics of generic curves (immersions of the circle)on ℝ2 he introduced J± in the case of generic planar wave fronts. 3. 3. The Location and Variability of Southern ocean Fronts

    Författare :Robert M. Graham; Agatha M. de Boer; Jonas Nycander; Qiong Zhang; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : The location of fronts has a direct influence on both the physical and biological processes in the Southern Ocean. Moreover, the Subtropical Front (STF) is believed play a key role in the global climate system. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Energy Conversion and Particle Acceleration at Turbulent Plasma Jet Fronts

    Författare :Louis Richard; Yuri V. Khotyaintsev; Tomas Karlsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : High speed plasma flows (jets) are ubiquitous phenomena in the universe. For example, they carry energy from the most powerful sources (e.g active galactic nucleï AGN) to the medium at rest surrounding them. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Energy Conversion and Particle Acceleration at Turbulent Plasma Jet Fronts

    Författare :Louis Richard; Yuri V. Khotyaintsev; Daniel B. Graham; Andris Vaivads; Emiliya Yordanova; Vassilis Angelopoulos; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Plasma jets; Magnetic reconnection; Particle acceleration; Magnetosphere; Magnetospheric Multiscale; Fysik med inriktning mot rymd- och plasmafysik; Physics with specialization in Space and Plasma Physics;

    Sammanfattning : High-speed plasma flows (jets) are ubiquitous phenomena in the visible Universe. When the fast plasma flow encounters the ambient plasma at rest, it forms a front where its kinetic energy is dissipated. At the jet front, charged particles gain energy from the electromagnetic fields through heating and acceleration. LÄS MER
