6. MRI and SPECT neuroimaging in mild cognitive impairment and Alzheimer's disease
Sammanfattning : This thesis concerns measurements of regional brain volumes using Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) and of regional cerebral blood flow (CBF) using Single Photon Emission Computed Tomography (SPECT) in patients investigated for suspected dementia. In the first study (I), visually rated MRI-, SPECT and EEG-pathology were compared between patients with Alzheimer's disease (AD) and patients with Frontal Lobe Dementia (FLD). LÄS MER
7. Dealing with Digits : Arithmetic, Memory and Phonology in Deaf Signers
Sammanfattning : Deafness has been associated with poor abilities to deal with digits in the context of arithmetic and memory, and language modality-specific differences in the phonological similarity of digits have been shown to influence short-term memory (STM). Therefore, the overall aim of the present thesis was to find out whether language modality-specific differences in phonological processing between sign and speech can explain why deaf signers perform at lower levels than hearing peers when dealing with digits. 8. Tracking selective attention in a musical cocktail
Sammanfattning : The cocktail party effect refers to mankind’s ability to focus attention on a single sound within noisy or complex auditory environments, in order to extract the most behaviourally-relevant information present. To investigate this cognitive phenomenon in a precise manner, we used frequency-tagging to separate neural auditory steady-state responses (ASSRs), which are specific to the driving frequency of each auditory source, from a neural mix elicited by multiple simultaneous stimuli. 9. Bio-social aspects of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD): Neurophysiology, maturity, motor function and how symptoms relate to family interaction
Sammanfattning : The purpose of this thesis has been to study biological and social factors of importance for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). Thirty children (age 6-11) with ADHD were examined with parent ratings, neurological examination, cognitive testing, cerebral blood-flow, and EEG. LÄS MER
10. The matter of white matter in Alzheimer's disease. -On white matter disease from neuropathology and neuroimaging to clinical presentation
Sammanfattning : Alzheimer's disease (AD) is the most prevalent type of dementing disorder. The cortical pathology of AD has been recognized for almost a century. In later years, an associated pathological feature of AD has been identified which affects the white matter. LÄS MER
