  1. 21. Attached Bacterial Communities in Lakes – Habitat-Specific Differences

    Författare :Ann-Louise Haglund; Lars Tranvik; Helmut Fischer; Bengt Boström; Erik Törnblom; Paul del Giorgio; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ecology; bacteria; freshwater; sediment; epiphyton; bacterioplankton; metabolically active; Ekologi; Terrestrial; freshwater and marine ecology; Terrestisk; limnisk och marin ekologi;

    Sammanfattning : For many years, the importance of microorganisms attached to surfaces in littoral zones and wetlands has been disregarded when describing aquatic ecosystem dynamics. Supporting evidence is scarce but convincing that these microbial communities are not only very productive but can often serve as major regulators of nutrient and carbon dynamics in many freshwaters. 2. 22. Behavioural ecology of Indo-Pacific bottlenose and humpback dolphins

    Författare :Eva Stensland; Per Berggren; Anders Angerbjörn; Elisabeth Slooten; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Behaviour; ecology; dolphins; Zanzibar; abundance; distribution; tourism; mixed-species groups; interspecific association; social interaction; swim-with-dolphin; Terrestrial; freshwater and marine ecology; Terrestisk; limnisk och marin ekologi;

    Sammanfattning : Dolphins in East Africa face various threats, such as direct hunt, bycatch and habitat degradation. It is therefore important to undertake research that can facilitate necessary conservation and management actions to minimize these threats. LÄS MER

  3. 23. The effects of crayfish on interactions in freshwater benthic communities

    Författare :Per Nyström; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; exotic species; trophic cascades; omnivory; crayfish; Trophic interactions; freshwater; Hydrobiology; marine biology; aquatic ecology; limnology; Marinbiologi; limnologi; akvatisk ekologi;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis examines how freshwater crayfish affect community interactions in benthic food webs. I have mainly studied the influence of the introduced signal crayfish (Pacifastacus leniusculus) on littoral communities, but also the influence of the native noble crayfish (Astacus astacus). 4. 24. Effects of forest fire and the ecology of fire-adapted insects

    Författare :Lars-Ove Wikars; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ecology; Ascomycetes; biodiversity; boreal; Coleoptera; disturbance; life-history; Ekologi; Terrestrial; freshwater and marine ecology; Terrestisk; limnisk och marin ekologi; Entomology; entomologi;

    Sammanfattning : Fire is widely recognised for its major impact on boreal forest ecosystems. The altereddisturbance regime due to effective fire suppression and extensive forestry may be a majorthreat to biodiversity.If logging preceded burning, the pyrophilous (Gr. fire-loving) beetle Sericoda quadripunctata failed to reproduce. 5. 25. Interactions between Bacteria and Fungi on Aquatic Detritus – Causes and Consequences

    Författare :Cecilia Mille-Lindblom; Lars Tranvik; Helmut Fischer; Eric Chauvet; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ecology; bacteria; fungi; decomposition; antagonism; extracellular enzymes; competition; macrophytes; dissolved organic carbon DOC ; ergosterol; Ekologi; Terrestrial; freshwater and marine ecology; Terrestisk; limnisk och marin ekologi;

    Sammanfattning : Bacteria and fungi dominate the decomposition of aquatic plants, a major process in the carbon and nutrient cycling in many aquatic systems. Although phylogenetically distant, bacteria and fungi often live in close proximity with each other. Since these microorganisms also have similar ecological functions, interactions have developed between them. LÄS MER
