1. Critical degrees of saturation at freezing of porous and brittle materials
Sammanfattning : This thesis is based on experimental work carried out during the period 1968-1972. The whole investigation is sponsored by the Swedish Council for Building Research and has been performed at the department of Building Materials at the Lund Institute of Technology. LÄS MER
2. Stabilization of fine-grained soils in cold environment and exposed to seasonal frost : By-products as hydraulic binders
Sammanfattning : This doctoral thesis deals with the stabilization of fine-grained soils using by-product originated hydraulic binders. The use of fine-grained soils as subsoil for infrastructure projects is often limited because of the risk for instability. LÄS MER
3. Laboratory Investigations of Frost Action Mechanisms in Soils
Sammanfattning : Phase change of the water in the soil skeleton under cold climate conditions (also known as frost action in soils) affects soil properties and can be responsible for serious alterations in a soil body; causing damages (due to the volumetric expansion known as frost heave) to structures on or below the ground surface such as foundations, roads, railways, retaining walls and pipelines, etc. In order to improve the current design methods for roads against frost action, the Swedish Transport Administration (Trafikverket) has initiated a research program. 4. Freezing Temperature Flows in Railway Tunnels and its Consequence on the Rock Supporting Structure, the Rock and the Reinforcing Elements
Sammanfattning : Water in the surrounding rock mass flows into the tunnel via naturally occurring joints and via cracks caused by the blasting used to excavate the tunnel. The most common method in Sweden to reduce or prevent leakage problems are first and foremost the use of grouting. LÄS MER
5. Thermophysical Properties of Aqueous Solutions Used as Secondary Working Fluids
Sammanfattning : Secondary working fluids (secondary refrigerants, heat transfer fluids, antifreezes, brines) have long been used in various indirect re-frigeration and heat pump systems. Aqueous solutions (water solu-tions) have long been used as single phase (liquid only) secondary working fluids for cooling in supermarkets, ice rinks, heat recovery systems, heat pumps and other applications.
