11. Symmetry Breaking Ordering Constraints
Sammanfattning : Many problems in business, industry, and academia can be modelled as constraint programs consisting of matrices of decision variables. Such “matrix models” often have symmetry. In particular, they often have row and column symmetry as the rows and columns can freely be permuted without affecting the satisfiability of assignments. LÄS MER
12. Optical Measurements of Rolling Friction Coefficients
Sammanfattning : This thesis presents an optical method to measure the rolling friction coefficientsfor balls rolling freely on a cylindrical surface. Two different models of a ball rollingfreely on a cylindrical surface are established, one is an analytical model and the otheris a numerical model derived from Lagrange equation. LÄS MER
13. Disease surveillance systems
Sammanfattning : Recent advances in information and communication technologies have made the development and operation of complex disease surveillance systems technically feasible, and many systems have been proposed to interpret diverse data sources for health-related signals. Implementing these systems for daily use and efficiently interpreting their output, however, remains a technical challenge. LÄS MER
14. Methodologies to assess the fate of polar organic compounds in aquatic environments
Sammanfattning : Polar organic compounds (POCs) are chemicals with polar functional groups in their structure. The functional groups make the compounds hydrophilic and less prone to partition with biota. However, the knowledge of their fate is limited due to difficulties associated with their measurements. 15. Multi-Scattering: Computational light transport in turbid media
Sammanfattning : This thesis presents and describes the development of an online freely accessible software called Multi-Scattering for the computational modeling of light propagation in scattering and absorbing media. The model is based on the use of the Monte Carlo method, where billions of photon packets are being launched and tracked through simulated cubic volumes. LÄS MER
