  1. 6. Mitochondrial function in human skeletal muscle: with special reference to exercise and training

    Författare :Michail Tonkonogi; Högskolan Dalarna; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :aerobic metabolism; oxidative phosphorylation; mitochondria; oxygen utilisation; citrate synthase; ADP sensitivity; ATP; muscle fibres; hydrogen ions; lactate; free radicals; proton leak; uncoupling; exercise; aerobic metabolism; oxidative phosphorylation; mitochondria; oxygen utilisation; citrate synthase; ADP sensitivity; ATP; muscle fibres; hydrogen ions; lactate; free radicals; proton leak; uncoupling; exercise;

    Sammanfattning : The overall objective of this thesis was to study the adaptation of oxidative function in human skeletal muscle to acute exercise of different modes, intensities and durations, and to endurance training. The effects of endurance training on mitochondrial function were evaluated in cross-sectional and longitudinal studies by measurements of mitochondrial oxygen consumption in isolated mitochondria and permeabilised muscle fibres and measurements of mitochondrial ATP production rate in isolated mitochondria. 2. 7. Mechanisms of alloxan diabetogenicity

    Författare :Kjell Grankvist; Inge-Bert Täljedal; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Alloxan; catalase; experimental diabetes; free radicals; islets of Langerhans; rubidium accumulation; superoxide dismutase; Trypan Blue;

    Sammanfattning : Suspensions of pancreatic islet cells from ob/ob-mice were incubated with Trypan Blue. Microscope photometry showed that apparently viable cells excluded the dye completely, whereas the nuclei of non-viable cells accumulated Trypan Blue by a saturable process. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Effect of Ischaemia-Reperfusion on Rabbit Kidney and Human Brain

    Författare :Jagdish Shivlal Gondalia; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Free radicals; ischaemia-reperfusion; cell bioenergetics; NMR; ESR; carotid artery stenosis; endarterectomy; allopurinol; acetylcysteine; MMP-1; ICAM-1; MCP-9; oxLDL;

    Sammanfattning : Free radicals are produced in various organs at ischaemia-reperfusion. The final stage in radical damage is lipid peroxidation. We have demonstrated previously that a lipid-soluble antioxidant improves restoration of bioenergetics in rabbit kidneys after ischaemia, as reflected in 31P spectrometry. LÄS MER

  4. 9. Effects of Th-1 and Th-2 Cytokines and Reactive Oxygen Species on Normal Human Bronchial Epithelial Cells

    Författare :Caroline Kampf; Benjamin Gaston; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cell biology; ytokines; desmosomes; focal adhesions; free radicals; hypochlorous acid; nitric oxide; normal human bronchial epithelial cells; Cellbiologi; Cell biology; Cellbiologi; medicinsk cellbiologi; Medical Cell Biology;

    Sammanfattning : Epithelial damage and shedding of the epithelium are common observations in many airway diseases such as asthma, Sjögren’s syndrome, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and cystic fibrosis. The ability of the cells to attach to each other and/or to the matrix seems to be altered. LÄS MER

  5. 10. Photoinitiated Radical Carbonylation Using [11C]Carbon Monoxide : 11C-Labelling of Aliphatic Carboxylic Acids, Esters, and Amides

    Författare :Oleksiy Itsenko; Bengt Långström; Tor Kihlberg; Chryssostomos Chatgilialoglu; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Organic chemistry; 11C-labelling; radicals; carbonylation; carbon monoxide; solvent effects; sensitizers; sulfoxides; WAY-100635; PET; Organisk kemi; Organic chemistry; Organisk kemi;

    Sammanfattning : One-step photoinitiated free radical carbonylation was employed for the rapid (5–7 min) labelling of aliphatic carboxylic acids, esters, and amides with a short-lived positron emitter 11C (t½ = 20.3 min) at the carbonyl position. The labelled compounds were synthesized from alkyl iodides (0.05–0. LÄS MER
