6. Unlocking Sustainability in Wastewater Denitrification through Waste-Derived Volatile Fatty Acids
Sammanfattning : Carbon sources play a critical role in biological nitrogen removal during wastewater treatment, where strict total nitrogen limits on effluent discharge apply. Organic carbon sources serve as electron donors in the denitrification for heterotrophic denitrifiers. LÄS MER
7. Common variants in genes regulating free fatty acid metabolism and risk of type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease
Sammanfattning : Abstract The present study evaluated genetic and metabolic factors influencing the risk for type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease (CVD) with special reference to increased concentrations of free fatty acids (FFA) in 1174 Swedish diabetic and nondiabetic subjects. Common polymorphisms in the fatty acid binding protein 2 (FABP2), the B2-adrenergic receptor (B2-AR), the B3 -adrenergic receptor (B3-AR) and the uncoupling protein 1 (UCP-1) genes were related to anthropometric and metabolic variables. 8. Cytokines and lipids in pregnancy – effects on developmental programming and placental nutrient transfer
Sammanfattning : Metabolic disturbances, in particular those associated with nutritional challenges, that take place during development, both in utero and early postnatal life, have long-lasting health consequences on an individual. The most pronounced evidence of these challenges is a deviation in birth weight. LÄS MER
9. The Free Fatty Acid Receptor GPR40 - expression and role in islet hormone secretion
Sammanfattning : Type 2 diabetes (T2D) is a serious condition of growing proportions. Developing via an increasing imbalance between insulin sensitivity in the peripheral tissues and insulin release from pancreatic beta-cells, it ultimately renders the individual incapable of regulating the blood glucose concentration, e.g. after a meal. 10. Sources of Arachidonic Acid in Platelets, Bone, Marrow and Gastrointestinal Tract
Sammanfattning : This study investigates pathways by which the eicosanoid precursor pools in the platelets, bone marrow and the gastrointestinal (GI) mucosa are acquired and regulated, and in this context some aspects on the interaction between triglyceride (TG)-rich lipoproteins and platelets. 1.
