11. Evolution of a silicic magma reservoir in the upper crust : Reyðarártindur pluton, Southeast Iceland
Sammanfattning : Field observations of extinct and exposed magma reservoirs shed light on processes operating in the roots of presently active volcanoes. The Reyðarártindur pluton, Southeast Iceland is an example of a fossil shallow magma reservoir that fed eruptions. LÄS MER
12. Technology and systems for stump harvesting with low ground disturbance
Sammanfattning : Tree stumps could make a significant contribution to the transition from a fossil- to a bio-based economy, but current stump harvesting operations have adverse ecological effects. The ground disturbance caused by the up-rooting leads to increased carbon emissions from the soil and increases risks of leaching of heavy metals and nutrients, while removal of stump wood increases nutrient removal and reduces amounts of dead wood in the forest. 13. Investigating Dwellings' Response to Heating Power Cuts : Simulations and Field Tests
Sammanfattning : Reducing energy use, increasing the use of renewable energy sources, and adapting to stricter building regulations and certification systems – these are all examples of the challenges facing the building industry and society. Looking at the energy supply at a larger scale than a single building, like a neighborhood or a city, the stack effect of peak power demands can cause problems on the production side, either economical or concerning the environment and greenhouse gases when fossil fuel is used to cover these peaks. 14. Nanoplasmonics for solar cells
Sammanfattning : The main source of our energy system, the fossil fuels, will eventually be depleted and also pose environmental and climate hazards. There is thus a need for alternative, renewable energy sources. Solar (photovoltaic) cells will play an important role as one of them. LÄS MER
15. Sustainability Transitions in Established Industries : The case of European Commercial Transport Vehicles
Sammanfattning : With the increasing trends in trade of goods and services as well as the expansion of road infrastructure and networks, commercial road transport has dominated a significant share of inland and urban logistics in the world and particularly in Europe. This includes not only the basic supply of citizens’ needs through long-haul traffic and short-distance city trucks but also by providing urban services such as courier delivery, household waste pickup and refuse collection as well as passengers movements by public bus transport and inter-city coach transit.
