1. Metabolic, methodological and developmental aspects of body composition : Studies in women and children with special reference to early life mechanisms behind childhood obesity
Sammanfattning : In recent decades the number of children with overweight has increased worldwide. To understand the mechanisms behind this development, knowledge regarding metabolism and physiology in relation to the nutritional situation in early life is of importance. LÄS MER
2. Kantor Triple Systems
Sammanfattning : The main purpose of this thesis is to study real exceptional Kantor triple systems. In the first paper we first prove the known results in both the real and complex classical cases of K-simple Kantor triple systems. In the real classical case our approach gives somewhat simpler formulas. LÄS MER
3. Numerical methods for Sylvester-type matrix equations and nonlinear eigenvalue problems
Sammanfattning : Linear matrix equations and nonlinear eigenvalue problems (NEP) appear in a wide variety of applications in science and engineering. Important special cases of the former are the Lyapunov equation, the Sylvester equation, and their respective generalizations. These appear, e.g. LÄS MER
4. The relationship between reduced renal function and cardiovascular disease
Sammanfattning : This thesis examines the relationship between measures of renal function and cardiovascular disease (CVD) in patients with hypertension (the NORDIL study) and in the healthy population (Malmö Diet and Cancer Study, MDC) and whether antihypertensive treatment response and the risk of CVD is affected by genetic variation of a regulator of the renal amiloroide sensitive sodium channel (NORDIL). In study 1 we tested creatinine, estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) with Cockroft-Gault (CG) and the MDRD equations and also microalbuminuria (MA) as predictors of CVD, stroke and CVD death. 5. Dynamic Soil-Structure Interaction Analysis of High-Speed Railway Bridges : Efficient modeling techniques and Experimental testing
Sammanfattning : The work reported in this thesis presents a general overview of the resonant response of high-speed railway bridges considering soil-structure interaction. The study aims to identify the effect of the surrounding and underlying soil on the global stiffness and damping of the structural system. LÄS MER
