  1. 21. Remote Sensing of Urbanization and Environmental Impacts

    Författare :Jan Haas; Yifang Ban; Lars Eklund; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Remote Sensing; Classification; Land Use Land Cover; Support Vector Machine; Random Forest; Urbaniztion; Environmental Impact; Landscape Metrics; Ecosystem Services; Geomatik; Geomatics;

    Sammanfattning : The unprecedented growth of urban areas all over the globe is nowadays maybe most apparent in China having undergone rapid urbanization since the late 1970s. The need for new residential, commercial and industrial areas leads to new urban regions challenging sustainable development and the maintenance and creation of a high living standard as well as the preservation of ecological functionality.     Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Earth observation; Landsat; Sentinel-2; WorldView-2; Urbanization; Land cover classification; Support vector machines; Random forest; U-Net; LandTrendr; Landscape metrics; Ecosystem services; Environmental impact analysis; Kigali; Rwanda; Jordobservation; Landsat; Sentinel-2 MSI; WorldView-2; Urbanisering; Klassificering av marktäcke; Stödvektormaskiner; Slumpmässig skog; U-Net; LandTrendr; Landskapsmetriker; Ekosystemtjänster; Miljökon- sekvensanalys; Kigali; Rwanda.; Geoinformatics; Geoinformatik;

    Sammanfattning : Urbanization is one of the great challenges in the 21st century. Despite being an engine for the global economy, urban areas consume 78% of World's energy and emit more than 60% of greenhouse gas emission. Sub-SaharanAfrican cities, e.g. LÄS MER

  3. 23. Population biology and conservation of beetles and pseudoscorpions associated with hollow oaks

    Författare :Thomas Ranius; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Systematic zoology; wood mould; tree hollow; pseudoscorpion; population variability; Osmoderma eremita; metapopulation; mark-recapture; habitat fragmentation; genetic structure; dispersal; beetle; computer simulation; taxonomy; zoogeography; Zoologisk systematik; djurgeografi;

    Sammanfattning : Many species associated with old trees are threatened, as this habitat has decreased severely in Europe during the last 200 years. In old oaks, hollows with wood mould often form in the trunks and these harbour a specialized fauna mainly consisting of beetles, flies and pseudoscorpions. LÄS MER

  4. 24. Landscape Ecological Analysis and Assessment in an Urbanising Environment - forest birds as biodiversity indicators

    Författare :Ulla Mörtberg; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :Landscape ecology; planning; strategic environmental assessment; biodiversity;

    Sammanfattning : To achieve a sustainable development, impacts onbiodiversity of urbanisation, infrastructure, land use changesand other developments must be considered on a landscape andregional scale. Landscape ecology can provide a conceptualframework for the assessment of consequences of long-termdevelopment processes like urbanisation on biodiversity on alandscape scale, and for evaluating the impacts of alternativeplanning scenarios. 5. 25. Theoretical disputes and practical environmental dilemmas : an interdisciplinary study

    Författare :Michelle Benyamine; Per Sandén; Rolf Lidskog; Ola Engelmark; Örebro universitet; []
    Nyckelord :sustainable development; natural science; theoretical disputes; forest nitrogen fertilisation; constructed wetlands; content analysis; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; Enviromental Science; Miljövetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis is to analyse the scientific basis for diverging recommendations in environmental management. A further aim of this study is to discuss the links and interactions between disciplines related to science of environmental issues, and between natural science and practice in dealing with environmental management and ecological sustainability.
