  1. 1. Foraging behaviour in benthivorous fish

    Författare :Marika Stenberg; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Marinbiologi; resource assessment; giving-up densities; predation risk; foraging behaviour; limnology; marine biology; Ekologi; akvatisk ekologi; limnologi; group foraging; benthivorous fish; aquatic ecology; Hydrobiology; Ecology;

    Sammanfattning : The foraging ability of an organism is essential since it affects various traits, e.g. growth, reproduction effort, social status and, ultimately, fitness. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Domestication effects on foraging behaviour : consequences for adaptability in chickens

    Författare :Christina Lindqvist; Per Jensen; Björn Forkman; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; Etologi; chicken; domestication effects; behaviour; red jungle fowl RJF ; contrafreeloading CFL ; egg production; Ethnology; Etnologi;

    Sammanfattning : The main aim of this thesis was to study domestication effects on foraging behaviour in chickens and to investigate whether and how domestication and selection for high production have influenced adaptability in chickens. Two domestic strains of chickens (egg layers and meat type chickens) and their wild ancestor, the red jungle fowl (RJF) were compared in different test situations with respect to foraging behaviour and adaptability. 3. 3. Salmonid behaviour under winter conditions

    Författare :Johan Watz; Larry Greenberg; Eva Bergman; John Piccolo; Richard Cunjak; Karlstads universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; climate change; drift; energy budget; foraging; grayling; ice cover; lotic; metabolic rate; predation; salmon; stream; stress; temperature; trout; Biology; Biologi;

    Sammanfattning : Winter conditions are believed to play an important role in the population dynamics of northern temperate stream fish, challenging the ability of fish to physiologically and behaviourally adapt. Climate change is predicted to increase both mean temperature and temperature fluctuations, especially during winter, leading to dynamic environmental conditions in terms of river ice production and flow. 4. 4. Individual variation in behaviour: personality and performance of brown trout in the wild

    Författare :Bart Adriaenssens; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :behavioural syndromes; personality; life-history; boldness; hatchery; survival; growth; foraging; anti-predator behaviour; learning; brown trout;

    Sammanfattning : Individuals from the same population often show very different behaviour. These differences, when consistent across time, are referred to as animal personality or behavioural syndromes. Explaining the occurrence of animal personality from an evolutionary perspective has however proven a difficult issue to tackle. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Optimal strategies and information in foraging theory

    Författare :Emma Sernland; Högskolan i Skövde; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Bayesian foraging; information use; public information; prior information; negative binomial distribution; group foraging; decision-making; information updating; leaving strategy; Ecology; Ekologi; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; Other biology; Övrig biologi; Naturvetenskap; Natural sciences; information use; Bayesian foraging; public information; prior information; negative binomial distribution; group foraging; decision-making; information updating; leaving strategy; Ecology; Ekologi;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis, I present both theoretical and empirical work where we have studied how humans and animals use information in situations where they need to continually update their information on the density of a resource. We have found that the amount of information, and the way the information is presented, are important factors for how well decisions are adapted to current circumstances. LÄS MER
