16. Micronutrients in temperate forage crops grown in Sweden : species differences and effects of phenological development and soil
Sammanfattning : Forage crops are the most important feed for ruminants and provide energy, fibre and protein as well as essential micronutrients such as cobalt (Co), copper (Cu), iron (Fe), manganese (Mn), molybdenum (Mo) and zinc (Zn). In this thesis, different aspects of the micronutrient concentrations of forage crops were investigated in temporary grasslands in Sweden. LÄS MER
17. Taro leaf and stylo forage as protein sources for pigs in Laos : biomass yield, ensiling and nutritive value
Sammanfattning : Existing forage plants may have applications as alternative protein resources for pigs in smallholder farming systems. This thesis examined the effect of harvesting/defoliation interval on the yield and chemical composition of taro leaves and stylo forage and analysed appropriate ensiling methods for these materials. 18. A forage-only diet and reduced high intensity training distance in standardbred horses : growth, health and performance
Sammanfattning : This thesis examined growth, health and performance in sixteen 1.5-3-year-old Standardbred horses fed a forage-only diet and trained to race as 3-year-olds in either a control training programme (C-group) or a training programme in which the high intensity training distance was reduced by 30% (R-group). 19. Diversifying the utility and species composition of Nordic forage systems : new fractionation methods and novel legume species
Sammanfattning : Leys, a temporary grassland grown as part of a crop rotation, represent an essential component of agricultural production in the Nordic countries. This thesis explores methods to diversify the utility of feed produced from leys through fractionation, as well as increase the diversity of legume species within the stand. LÄS MER
20. Migration strategies of raptors – spatio-temporal adaptations and constraints in travelling and foraging
Sammanfattning : My dissertation is about bird migration and addresses questions about how raptors adapt to the fluctuating environments during the transition seasons between breeding and wintering. The migration is highly affected by local prey abundance, foraging strategies, weather conditions and landscape patterns along the migration routes as well as navigation and orientation mechanisms and cues.
