  1. 1. Protein folding without loops and charges

    Författare :Martin Kurnik; Mikael Oliveberg; Kevin W. Plaxco; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; protein folding; folding cooperativity; protein aggregation; protein charges; protein engineering; Biochemistry; biokemi;

    Sammanfattning : Going down the folding funnel, proteins may sample a wide variety of conformations, some being outright detrimental to the organism. Yet, the vast majority of polypeptide molecules avoid such pitfalls. Not only do they reach the native minimum of the energy landscape; they do so via blazingly fast, biased, routes. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Folding of the Ribosomal protein S6 : The role of sequence connectivity, overlapping foldons, and parallel pathways

    Författare :Ellinor Haglund; Mikael Oliveberg; Neil Ferguson; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; protein folding; protein stability; two-state folding; S6; chevron plot; transition state; parallell pathways; foldon; two-channel landscape; protein engineering; H D-exchange; Biochemistry; Biokemi; Biochemistry; biokemi;

    Sammanfattning : To investigate how protein folding is affected by sequence connectivity five topological variants of the ribosomal protein S6 were constructed through circular permutation.  In these constructs, the chain connectivity (i.e. the order of secondary-structure elements) is changed without changing the native-state topology. 3. 3. Influenza neuraminidase assembly : Evolution of domain cooperativity

    Författare :Diogo da Silveira Vieira da Silva; Robert Daniels; Ron Fouchier; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Influenza; neuraminidase; assembly; transmembrane domain; evolution; Biochemistry; biokemi;

    Sammanfattning : Influenza A virus (IAV) is one of the most common viruses circulating in the human population and is responsible for seasonal epidemics that affect millions of individuals worldwide. The need to develop new drugs and vaccines against IAVs led scientists to study the main IAV surface antigens hemagglutinin (HA) and neuraminidase (NA). LÄS MER

  4. 4. Exploring Molecular Interactions : Synthesis and Studies of Clip-Shaped Molecular Hosts

    Författare :Anjaneya Prasad Polavarapu; Helena Grennberg; Adolf Gogoll; Jerker Mårtensson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Organic chemistry; Glycoluril clips; host-guest systems; supramolecular chemistry; complexation induced shifts; conformational restriction; NMR spectroscopy; fullerene binding; Organisk kemi;

    Sammanfattning : Molecular recognition via noncovalent interactions plays a key role in many biological processes such as antigen-antibody interactions, protein folding, the bonding and catalytic transformation of substrates by enzymes, etc. Amongst these noncovalent interactions, electrostatic interactions, hydrogen bonding, π-π interactions, and metal-to-ligand bonding are the most prominent. 5. 5. Characterisation of Aqueous Solutions, Liquid Crystals and Solid State of Non-ionic Polymers in Association with Amphiphiles and Drugs

    Författare :Annika Ridell; Martin Malmsten; Sven Engström; David Attwood; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Physical chemistry; polymer; surfactant; phase diagram; x-ray diffraction; fluorescence spectroscopy; calorimetry; PEG; cellulose ether; viscometry; cubic phase; liquid crystals; drugs; solid dispersion; Fysikalisk kemi; Physical chemistry; Fysikalisk kemi; Fysikalisk och oorganisk farmaceutisk kemi; Physical and Inorganic Pharmaceutical Chemistry;

    Sammanfattning : Cellulose ethers and polyethylene glycols are used in drug formulations as water swelling or water soluble matrices. Polar lipids, for example monoglycerides, and surfactants can be used to solubilise hydrophobic or amphiphilic drugs and to formulate potential drug delivery vehicles such as emulsions, liposomes and cubic phases.
