21. Folate in cancer and cardiovascular disease : prospective studies from the population-based northern Sweden health and disease study
Sammanfattning : BACKGROUND: Folate, a B-vitamin found primarily in fruits and vegetables, especially leafy greens, and other B-vitamins involved in folate metabolism are believed to protect against cancer and cardiovascular disease. Maintaining an adequate folate status ensures availability of methyl groups for DNA synthesis and for all methylation reactions in the body, and prevents the accumulation of homocysteine, a sulphur-containing amino acid that has been linked to cardiovascular disease. 22. Microbial Responses to Antibiotics – Stability of Resistance and Extended Potential of Targeting the Folate Synthesis
Sammanfattning : Resistance to antimicrobials is an increasing problem in the world of today, and develops faster than man can counter. It is therefore of importance to study metabolic pathways in order to develop new antibiotics, but also to understand how resistance spreads and stabilizes in microbial populations. LÄS MER

24. Nutritional properties of tempe fermented whole-grain barley and oats. Influence of processing conditions on the retention and availability of iron, starch and folates
Sammanfattning : This thesis aimed at evaluating the tempe fermentation process as a means to develop nutritionally improved vegetarian products from barley and oats. The work was designed to assess relationships between selection of raw material and processing conditions in correlation to nutrient content and availability. LÄS MER
25. Examining the role of metabolism in Myc-driven tumorigenesis
Sammanfattning : Myc transcriptionally regulates genes involved in processes such as cell proliferation, metabolism, differentiation, and angiogenesis. MYC expression is deregulated in many types of human cancer; therefore discovering the mechanisms behind MYCs role in tumorigenesis is essential. LÄS MER
