1. On Fluoridation of Chewing Sticks (Miswaks) with Respect to Dental Caries
Sammanfattning : The chewing stick known as a “Miswak” is a natural toothbrush that is widely used for cleaning the teeth. It has been used for thousands of years in Asia, Africa and the Middle East. The aim of this thesis was to evaluate the Miswak as a vehicle for fluoride delivery in the oral cavity. LÄS MER
2. Computational studies of Poly(vinylidene fluoride) and Poly(vinylidene fluoride) - Single Wall Carbon Nanotube Composites
Sammanfattning : Poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) exhibits properties that allows the material to be used in such diverse areas as wire and cable products, electronic devices, membranes, exterior coatings for constructions and in the chemical, pharmaceutical and food industry as fluid-handling equipment. It is the inherent molecular structure of PVDF, where every second backbone carbon is bonded to two fluorine atoms, that gives the polymer several unique properties, among them piezo- and pyroelectricity. 3. Solubility and Surface Complexation Studies of Apatites
Sammanfattning : Apatites are a diverse class of phosphate minerals that are important in a great variety of natural and industrial processes. They are, for example, used as raw material in fertiliser production and in the remediation of metal-contaminated soils. LÄS MER
4. Crystallization of Metal Fluoride Hydrates from Mixed Acid Solutions
Sammanfattning : In this work crystal growth and nucleation of b-FeF3×3H2O and crystallization of chromium (III), iron (III) and nickel (II) fluoride hydrates from mixed acid (1-3 mol/kg HNO3 and 1-6 mol/kg free HF) have been investigated. The solubility of b-FeF3×3H2O has been determined in solutions of different hydrofluoric acid (1-7mol/ kg) and nitric acid (0-7mol/ kg) concentrations at 30, 40 and 50°C. LÄS MER
5. Computational Studies of Poly(vinylidene fluoride)
Sammanfattning : Poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) is a versatile material with numerous applications, both potential and realized, in many industrial sectors. The extent of applications, ranging from cable and wire products, to sensors for the monitoring of respiration and heart-rate in medicine, indicates on the level of interest the materials science community has for this material.
