  1. 21. Transport of Particles in Turbulent Flow with Application to Bio-Fuels

    Författare :Ammar Saber; Magnus Marklund; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Bio fuels; Turbulent flow; PIV measurement; Strömningslära; Fluid Mechanics;

    Sammanfattning : Development of civilization faces a challenge of developing the resources of energy demand for the modern life. Extensive use of conventional fuel resources like crude oil and coal rise up a serious problem of increasing CO2 emission. New records levels of CO2 were registered during the early beginning of industrial revolution (http://climate.nasa. LÄS MER

  2. 22. Field Measurements and Numerical Simulations of Sediment Transport in a Tidal River

    Författare :Qiancheng Xie; Staffan Lundström; J. Gunnar I. Hellström; Anders G. Andersson; Nils Ruther; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Strömningslära; Fluid Mechanics;

    Sammanfattning : In a coastal area, an alluvial lowland river has a free connection with the open sea and its flow is bidirectional. The river basin is often highly urbanized since it hosts valuable ecosystems and natural resources. Along with the growing population, climate change and human activities (e.g. LÄS MER

  3. 23. Stress, Flow and Particle Transport in Rock Fractures

    Författare :Tomofumi Koyama; Lanru Jing; Marc Boulon; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Numerical simulation; laboratory experiments; rock fracture; coupled stress-flow-tracer test; shear displacement; fluid flow; particle transport; finite element method FEM ; particle tracking method; Navier-Stokes equation; Reynolds equation; streamline velocity dispersion.; Geoengineering; Geoteknik;

    Sammanfattning : The fluid flow and tracer transport in a single rock fracture during shear processes has been an important issue in rock mechanics and is investigated in this thesis using Finite Element Method (FEM) and streamline particle tracking method, considering evolutions of aperture and transmissivity with shear displacement histories under different normal stresses, based on laboratory tests. The distributions of fracture aperture and its evolution during shear were calculated from the initial aperture fields, based on the laser-scanned surface roughness features of replicas of rock fracture specimens, and shear dilations measured during the coupled shear-flow-tracer tests in laboratory performed using a newly developed testing apparatus in Nagasaki University, Nagasaki, Japan. 4. 24. Fluid dynamics and flow structures of wood fibres suspended in gas flows

    Författare :Olof Melander; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; two-fluid model; fibres; flocculation; multiphase flow; flow regimes; particle transport; fibre suspensions; Particle Image Velocimetry; Computational Fluid Dynamics; lift force; concentration measurement;

    Sammanfattning : The flow of wood fibres suspended in gas plays a major role in the MDF (Medium Density Fibreboard) production process. Development of machinery in this industry has traditionally been based on experience. Only recently has the use of numerical methods such as CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) become an important part of the development process. LÄS MER

  5. 25. Fluid Power Applications Using Self-Organising Maps in Condition Monitoring

    Författare :Anders Zachrison; Jan-Ove Palmberg; Magnus Sethson; Richard Burton; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Fluid power; pneumatic; self-organizing maps; condition monitoring; Signal processing; Signalbehandling;

    Sammanfattning : Condition monitoring of systems and detection of changes in the systems are of significant importance for an automated system, whether it is for production, transport, amusement, or any other application. Although condition monitoring is already widely used in machinery, the need for it is growing, especially as systems become increasingly autonomous and self-contained. LÄS MER
