1. Noise radiation from drill steels : and other experimental investigations in acoustics and fluid mechanics
Sammanfattning : Drill rod noise has become a major noise source in percussive drilling. Generation of flexural waves, which seem to be responsible for most of the noise, is studied in a model with dynamic photoelasticity and in the real drill rod with strain gauge technique. LÄS MER
2. Adaptive and model-based control in laminar boundary-layer flows
Sammanfattning : In boundary-layer flows it is possible to reduce the friction drag by breaking the path from laminar to turbulent state. In low turbulence environments, the laminar-to-turbulent transition is dominated by local flow instabilities – Tollmien-Schlichting (TS) waves – that exponentially grows while being con- vected by the flow and, eventually, lead to transition. 3. Microdialysis Sampling of Macro Molecules : Fluid Characteristics, Extraction Efficiency and Enhanced Performance
Sammanfattning : In this thesis, fluid characteristics and sampling efficiency of high molecular weight cut-off microdialysis are presented, with the aim of improving the understanding of microdialysis sampling mechanisms and its performance regarding extraction efficiency of biological fluid and biomarkers.Microdialysis is a well-established clinical sampling tool for monitoring small biomarkers such as lactate and glucose. 4. Analysis of heat transfer and fluid flow in the resin transfer moulding process
Sammanfattning : This thesis contains an analysis of fluid flow and heat transfer problems in the resin transfer moulding (RTM) process for manufacturing of polymer based fibre composites and it consists of five separate papers. The permeability of unidirectional fabrics, that are often used in advanced composites, is considered in Paper A and a theory for the permeability dependence on the micro geometry is developed. 5. Computational fluid-dynamics investigations of vortex generators for flow-separation control
Sammanfattning : Many flow cases in fluid dynamics face undesirable flow separation due to ad-verse pressure gradients on wall boundaries. This occurs, for example, due togeometrical reasons as in a highly curved turbine-inlet duct or on flow-controlsurfaces such as wing trailing-edge flaps within a certain angle-of-attack range. LÄS MER
