1. Numerical modeling of dielectrophoresis
Sammanfattning : We investigate the dielectrophoretic separation of microparticles. Two different models are formulated in two characteristic time scales. The first model mainly accounts for the orientation behavior and rotational motion of non-spheric microparticles. The concept of effective charge is suggested to calculate the finite size non-spheric particles. LÄS MER
2. Cardiovascular fluid dynamics : methods for flow and pressure field analysis from magnetic resonance imaging
Sammanfattning : Cardiovascular blood flow is highly complex and incompletely understood. Blood flow patterns are expected to influence the opening and closing of normal and prosthetic heart valves, the efficiency of cardiac filling and ejection, and the resistance to thrombus formation within the heart. 3. Particle transport in human lung : effects of particle size and shape
Sammanfattning : Recent studies have shown that nanoparticles may be more toxic than larger particles of the same material, but the health risks associated with widespread use largely depend on the extent of exposure. When dealing with potentially toxic particles, precautionary measures have to be taken in order to minimize contact. LÄS MER
4. Particle dynamics during biomass devolatilization : Momentum exchange and particle dispersion
Sammanfattning : Devolatilization is a heat-driven thermochemical process in which a liquid or a solid fuel releases mass in the form of volatile compounds after drying, as a result of the combination of endothermic and exothermic reactions. It differs from pyrolysis in that it does not require an inert atmosphere and that the reactant must be either solid or liquid. LÄS MER
5. Modeling of dielectrophoresis in micro and nano systems
Sammanfattning : This thesis presents models and simulations of dielectrophoretic separation of micro and nano particles. The fluid dynamics involved and the dielectric properties of water inside single-walled carbon nanotube are studied as well. LÄS MER
