6. Turbulence measurements in fiber suspension flows : experimental methods and results
Sammanfattning : Turbulent mixing is present in many pulp and paper processes. It is a particularly important factor in the design and improvements of the paper machine headbox, influencing the final paper structure. LÄS MER
7. Unsteady Numerical Simulations of Flow around Heavy Vehicles, Trains and Passenger Cars
Sammanfattning : In this thesis several simulations have been carried out aimed at improving the knowledgeof vehicle aerodynamics and improving the flow around vehicles with respect to theaerodynamic drag. Four flows around different simplified vehicles have been considered. LÄS MER
8. Simulation of individual cells in flow
Sammanfattning : In this thesis, simulations are performed to study the motion ofindividual cells in flow, focusing on the hydrodynamics of actively swimming cells likethe self-propelling microorganisms, and of passively advected objects like the red bloodcells. In particular, we develop numerical tools to address the locomotion ofmicroswimmers in viscoelastic fluids and complex geometries, as well as the motion ofdeformable capsules in micro-fluidic flows. 9. Stability of plane Couette flow and pipe Poiseuille flow
Sammanfattning : This thesis concerns the stability of plane Couette flow and pipe Poiseuille flow in three space dimensions. The mathematical model for both flows is the incompressible Navier--Stokes equations. Both analytical and numerical techniques are used. We present new results for the resolvent corresponding to both flows. LÄS MER
10. Fluid flow in wood fiber network
Sammanfattning : Cellulose material is processed to pulp suspensions and MDF boards in order to produce products such as papers, magazines, laminate floors or door skins. A critical stage of these processes is when the cellulose fiber networks are compressed to specific densities and when most of the fluid originally positioned between and inside the fibers is forced to leave the network.
