  1. 1. Pheromone production in the butterfly Pieris napi L

    Författare :Rushana Murtazina; Raimondas Mozuraitis; Joop van Loon; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :Pieris; Lepidoptera; pheromone; aphrodisiaca; antiaphrodisiaca; biosynthesis; flower volatiles; stable isotopes; incorporation; neral; geranial; methyl salicylate; benzyl cyanide; L - phenylalanine;

    Sammanfattning : Aphrodisiac and anti-aphrodisiac pheromone production and composition in the green-veined white butterfly Pieris napi L. were investigated.Aphrodisiac pheromone biosynthesis had different time constraints in butterflies from the diapausing and directly developing generations. 2. 2. Odour-mediated nectar foraging in the silver Y moth, Autographa gamma

    Författare :Dainius Plepys; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; predation risk; Noctuidae; Lepidoptera; flight tunnel; GC-EAD; single sensillum; sprayer; ultrasound; floral volatiles; attraction; foraging; mate-finding; lilac aldehydes; olfactory receptor neurones; Ecology; Ekologi; Chemistry; Kemi;

    Sammanfattning : It is well established that floral odours play a significant role in the nectar foraging behaviour in Lepidoptera and other insect orders. Floral odour may elicit searching, alighting and feeding behaviours alone or in concert with visual stimuli. LÄS MER

  3. 3. The Ecology of Floral Signals in Penstemon digitalis

    Författare :Rosalie Burdon; Amy L. Parachnowitsch; James Thomson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Antimicrobial; Bombus impatiens learning; indirect signal; multimodal; nectar; protandry; signal-reward association; Volatile Organic Compounds VOCs ; Biology with specialization in Ecological Botany; Biologi med inriktning mot ekologisk botanik;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis, I combined field observations and lab experiments to explore the ecological significance of floral signals in a North American wildflower, Penstemon digitalis. More specifically, to determine the potential mechanisms driving selection on floral scent, I studied how scent mediates interactions with pollinators and antagonists by (1) observing spatiotemporal variation in scent emission (2), floral volatile ability to suppress microbes (3) the honest advertisement of nectar, and (4) if scent could aid pollinator learning by reinforcing visual signals. 4. 4. Attract, reward and disrupt: combining habitat manipulation and semiochemicals to enhance pest control in apple orchards

    Författare :Joakim Pålsson; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Agricultural intensification entails negative effects on natural enemy populations and the pest regulation services they provide. Habitat manipulation holds potential to control pests with less negative effects on the environment than conventional methods. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Evaluation of plant resistance in field pea by host plant choice behaviour of pea weevil (Bruchus pisorum L.) : implications for pest management

    Författare :Esayas Mendesil; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Field pea (Pisum sativum L.) is an important grain legume crop due to its nutritional value and role in improving soil fertility in cropping systems. Insect pests are one of the main production constraints for field pea, with pea weevil (PW), (Bruchus pisorum L.) being an economically important pest of field pea worldwide. LÄS MER
