  1. 1. A Study of Using Pulsed Neutron Activation for Accurate Measurements of Water Flow in Pipes

    Författare :Per Lindén; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; pulsed neutron activation; turbulent flow; neural networks; pipe flow; flow measurements; eddy diffusion; time averaging;

    Sammanfattning : The objectives of this work were 1) to investigate the performance of the pulsed neutron activation (PNA) method for determination of mass flow of water in pipes, and 2) to improve the accuracy such that an error less than 1% become possible with the PNA method. The ultimate purpose is to develop this method into a high-accuracy portable and non-intrusive flow-meter that easily can be used as a calibration tool at a number of field applications, e. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Vortices in turbulent curved pipe flow-rocking, rolling and pulsating motions

    Författare :Athanasia Kalpakli Vester; P. Henrik Alfredsson; Ramis Örlü; Nils Tillmark; Knud Meyer; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :Turbulence; curved pipes; swirling flow; pulsatile flow; time-resolved stereoscopic particle image velocimetry; hot-wire anemometry; proper orthogonal decomposition; turbocharger;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis is motivated by the necessity to understand the flow structure of turbulent flows in bends encountered in many technical applications such as heat exchangers, nuclear reactors and internal combustion engines. Flows in bends are characterised by strong secondary motions in terms of counter-rotating vortices (Dean cells) set up by a centrifugal instability. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Towards Personalized Models of the Cardiovascular System Using 4D Flow MRI

    Författare :Belén Casas Garcia; Tino Ebbers; Jonas Lantz; Petter Dyverfeldt; Carljohan Carlhäll; Frans van de Vosse; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Magnetic resonance imaging; 4D Flow MRI; Computational modelling; Blood flow; Hemodynamics;

    Sammanfattning : Current diagnostic tools for assessing cardiovascular disease mostly focus on measuring a given biomarker at a specific spatial location where an abnormality is suspected. However, as a result of the dynamic and complex nature of the cardiovascular system, the analysis of isolated biomarkers is generally not sufficient to characterize the pathological mechanisms behind a disease. 5. 5. Exploring the Affective Loop

    Författare :Petra Sundström; RISE; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Research in psychology and neurology shows that both body and mind are involved when experiencing emotions (Damasio 1994, Davidson et al. 2003). People are also very physical when they try to communicate their emotions. LÄS MER
