  1. 1. The influence of multiscale hyporheic flow on solute transport : Implications for stream restoration enhancing nitrogen removal

    Författare :Ida Morén; Anders Wörman; Joakim Riml; Roy Haggerty; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Hyporheic exchange flow; Hydrological modeling; Solute transport; Stream restoration; Nitrogen; Power spectral analysis; Hydraulic and Hydrologic Engineering; Hydraulik och teknisk hydrologi;

    Sammanfattning : Stream water that flows into and out of streambeds is called hyporheic exchange flow (HEF).It continuously interacts with groundwater and thereby affect the water quality of local streamreaches as well as downstream recipients by providing an environment where solutes andenergy can be retained and degraded. 2. 2. Water and Heat Transport in Road Structures : Development of Mechanistic Models

    Författare :Klas Hansson; Lars-Christer Lundin; Kurt Roth; Uppsala universitet; []

    Sammanfattning : The coupled transport of water and heat, involving freezing and thawing, in the road structure and its immediate environment is important to consider for optimal design and maintenance of roads and when assessing solute transport, of e.g. de-icing salt, from roads. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Upscaling of Flow, Transport, and Stress-effects in Fractured Rock

    Författare :Johan Öhman; Auli Niemi; Ove Stephansson; Robert W Zimmerman; Uppsala universitet; []

    Sammanfattning : One of many applications of geohydraulic modelling is assessing the suitability of a site to host a nuclear waste repository. This modelling task is complicated by scale-dependent heterogeneity and coupled thermo-hydro-mechanical (THM) processes. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Solute transport in fractured rocks : Analysis of analytical solutions and determination of transport parameters

    Författare :Shuo Meng; Longcheng Liu; Ivars Neretnieks; Lanru Jing; Klaus-Peter Kröhn; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Fractured rock; Radionuclide transport; Analytical solution; Dispersion mechanisms; Electromigration.; Sprickigt berg; Radionukidtransport; analytisk lösning; Dispersionsmekanismer; Elektromigration.; Chemical Engineering; Kemiteknik;

    Sammanfattning : In order to facilitate the assessment of the safety and function of deep geological repositories for radioactive waste, several models have been developed to describe water flow and transport of solutes in fractured crystalline rock. The rock around the repository is described and modelled as a network of water-bearing fractures. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Mechanisms of transendothelial and tissue transport in the peritoneum. Experimental studies on rat

    Författare :Bert-Inge Rosengren; Njurmedicin; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; nefrologi; Urologi; hyaluronan; interstitium; blood flow; rat; pore; inhibition; temperature; peritoneal dialysis; permeability; capillary; protein; passive; active; transport; transcytosis; vesicle; Urology; nephrology; small solute;

    Sammanfattning : In the present thesis, the quantitative role of active transport (transcytosis) in bulk transvascular protein movement in vivo was evaluated. Using chemical transcytosis inhibition (N-ethylmaleimide (NEM) and filipin), we were able to show that NEM actually increases endothelial permeability to macromolecules, probably as a result of unspecific toxic action on endothelial cells.
