  1. 1. Environmental history in southern Mozambique : Reconstruction of flooding events, hydroclimate and sea-level dynamics since mid-Holocene

    Författare :Sandra Raúl Sitoe; Jan Risberg; Elin Norström; Lars-Ove Westerberg; John Compton; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Southern Africa; Limpopo River floodplain; flooding event; sea-level change; climate change; diatoms; phytoliths; mineral magnetics; grain-size; radiocarbon dating; kvartärgeologi; Quaternary Geology;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis has been to reconstruct paleoenvironment, paleohydrology and paleoclimate in coastal southern Mozambique, with emphasis on tracing past flooding events on the lower Limpopo River floodplain. In order to extend flood chronologies beyond periods covered by instrumental data, sediments from lakes on the floodplain were studied (Lake Lungué, Coassane Oxbow, Lake Magandane and Lake Soane). 2. 2. Just or Unjust : Assessment of rainfall-related flood damage in a Swedish context

    Författare :Shifteh Mobini; Avdelningen för Teknisk vattenresurslära; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Equity; flood damage; pluvial flooding; damage claim;

    Sammanfattning : Climate change has led to an increase in heavy summer rainfalls, and climate projections for Sweden indicate that there will be more sudden rainfall in the future. While the exact locations and time for this rainfall are unknown, it is known that there will be damages to buildings, cars, and people when the rainfall occurs. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Climate in the eastern Mediterranean during the Holocene and beyond – A Peloponnesian perspective

    Författare :Martin Finné; Karin Holmgren; Hanna S. Sundqvist; Georgia Destouni; Neil Roberts; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Stable isotopes; U-Th dating; stalagmites; climate variability; flooding history; eastern Mediterranean; southern Greece; Holocene; Pleistocene; Physical Geography; naturgeografi;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis contributes increased knowledge about climate variability during the late Quaternary in the eastern Mediterranean. Results from a paleoclimate review reveal that regional wetter conditions from 6000 to 5400 years BP were replaced by a less wet period from 5400 to 4600 years BP and to fully arid conditions around 4600 years BP. 4. 4. Flood Hazard Assessment in Data-Scarce Basins : Use of alternative data and modelling techniques

    Författare :Diana Fuentes-Andino; Sven Halldin; Chong-Yu Xu; Keith Beven; Giuliano Di Baldassarre; Wouter Buytaert; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Central America; floods; data scarcity; data quality; uncertainty analysis; regionalisation; flood frequency analysis; GLUE; hydraulic modelling; rainfall-runoff modeling; TOPMODEL; LISFLOOD-FP; GRADEX; index-flood; Muskingum-Cunge-Todini flow routing; Mellanamerika; högflöde; datakvalitet; osäkerhetsanalys; regionalisering; frekvensanalys av högflöden; GLUE; hydraulisk modellering; nederbörds-avrinningsmodeller; TOPMODEL; LISFLOOD-FP; GRADEX; indexflöde; Muskingum-Cunge-Todini flödessvarstid; Central América; inundaciones; escasez de datos; calidad de los datos; análisis de incertidumbre; regionalización; análisis de frequencia de inundación; GLUE; modelación hidraulica; modelo de lluvia-escorrentía; TOPMODEL; LISFLOOD-FP; GRADEX; índice de inundación; Muskingum-Cunge-Todini rutina de propagación de flujo;

    Sammanfattning : Flooding is of great concern world-wide, causing damage to infrastructure, property and loss of life. Low-income countries, in particular, can be negatively affected by flood events due to their inherent vulnerabilities. Moreover, data to perform studies for flood risk management in low-income regions are often scarce or lacking sufficient quality. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Impacts of climate oscillation on precipitation and river flows of small scale river basins in Eastern Northeast Brazil

    Författare :Denis Duda Costa; Avdelningen för Teknisk vattenresurslära; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Eastern Northeast Brazil; Droughts; Floods; Climate patterns; Hydrological model; Weather radar;

    Sammanfattning : The Northeast region of Brazil is one of the most susceptible parts of the country to the effects of climate variability leading to severe droughts or extreme floods. Indeed, drought is a major issue due to a large semiarid area that covers 53% of the region, which determines the main climate characteristics of this region. LÄS MER
