11. A search for ultra-high energy neutrinos with AMANDA-II
Sammanfattning : High-energy neutrinos are capable of carrying information over vast distances, and neutrino telescopes such as AMANDA-II provide the means to probe deep inside the violent and energetic interior of the universe. AMANDA-II is located in the glacial ice at South Pole in Antarctica and is optimised to detect Cherenkov emission from neutrino-induced muon tracks with energies above 100 GeV. LÄS MER
12. Exotic phases of matter in compact stars
Sammanfattning : Astrophysical observations constitute an increasingly important source of information, thanks to the high resolution of present and near-future terrestrial and orbiting observatories. Especially, the properties of matter at low temperatures and extremely high densities can only be studied by observations of compact stellar objects. LÄS MER
13. Weigh them all! : Cosmological searches for the neutrino mass scale and mass ordering
Sammanfattning : The elusive neutrinos are among the most intriguing constituents of the particle zoo. The observation of neutrino flavour oscillations, indicating that neutrinos are massive, provides the only direct evidence for physics beyond the Standard Model. LÄS MER
14. Production asymmetry of strange quarks in electron-positron annihilation at LEP
Sammanfattning : The forward-backward asymmetry in the production of strange quarks in electron-positron annihilation has been measured at a centre-of-mass energy corresponding to the mass of the Z0 particle. The asymmetry at this energy is highly sensitive to the ratio between the vector and axial-vector couplings of the quark to the Z0 and to the value of the electroweak mixing angle sin2 θw. LÄS MER
