  1. 11. Clinical Aspects of Hereditary Breast Cancer

    Författare :Niklas Loman; Bröstcancer-genetik; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; cancer; Cytologi; onkologi; cancerology; oncology; Cytology; Age of onset; Survival analysis; Incidence; Male breast cancer; Steroid receptors; BRCA2; BRCA1; Breast cancer; hereditary;

    Sammanfattning : A positive family history of breast cancer (BC) is one of the strongest predictors of the disease. Two major BC susceptibility genes, BRCA1 and BRCA2 were identified about a decade ago. In this thesis, studies of different biological. clinical and epidemiological aspects of hereditary BC are presented. LÄS MER

  2. 12. Childhood coeliac disease : clinical aspects of heredity, diagnosis and dietary therapy

    Författare :Lotta Högberg; Anders Dannaeus; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Sammanfattning : Childhood coeliac disease (CD) is defined as a lifelong disorder, in which the small bowel mucosa is abnormal as a result of exposure to gluten in the diet. The mucosal damage improves on treatment with a gluten-free diet, but recurs within two years of reintroduction of gluten. LÄS MER

  3. 13. Colorectal Cancer : Aspects of Heredity, Prognosis and Tumour Markers

    Författare :Lana Ghanipour; Helgi Birgisson; Lars Påhlman; Karin Jirström; Tom Öresland; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :colorectal cancer; heredity; Tryptophanyl t-RNA synthetase; microsatellite instability; SP-PLA; prognosis; biomarkers;

    Sammanfattning : Colorectal cancer (CRC) is one of the most common cancer types and leading causes of cancer death worldwide. Since CRC is a heterogenic disease, there is a demand for increased knowledge of the underlying genetic and epigenetic mechanisms. The aim of this thesis was to investigate heredity and potential tumour markers in relation to prognosis. LÄS MER

  4. 14. Investigation of the origin of the coronary artery calcification process and its relationship to the atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease

    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Coronary artery calcification; ethnicity; South Asians; Caucasians; reproducibility; aortic valve calcification; mitral valve calcification; family history of coronary artery disease; natural history; coronary artery calcium score; meta-analysis;

    Sammanfattning : The objectives of this thesis are: a) To examine racial/ethnic differences in coronary artery calcification (CAC) and CAD, between symptomatic South Asians and Caucasians, matched for age, gender and conventional cardiovascular risk factors, b) To assess, using a meta-analysis model, the natural history of and stability of measurements of coronary artery calcium scoring (CACs) based on data collected from two large published trials: St Francis and EBEAT, c) To investigate the prevalence of coronary artery calcification in individuals with CT evidence for AVC, mitral valve calcification (MAC) or of both of them (AVC+MAC), d) To assess any potential association between premature CAD (.. Sammanfattning : Background Chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) is a relatively rare hematological malignancy with a constant incidence of approximately 90 new cases each year in Sweden (0.9 cases/100 000 inhabitants). The etiology is largely unknown but high doses of ionizing radiation are a known but rare risk factor. LÄS MER
