  1. 1. Fighting flameless fires : Initiating and extinguishing self-sustainedsmoldering fires in wood pellets

    Författare :Ragni Fjellgaard Mikalsen; Vidar Frette; Bjarne C. Hagen; Ulrich Krause; Anne Steen-Hansen; Ulrich Krause; Nieves Fernandez-Anez; RISE; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Fuel storage safety; Industrial fire; Biofuels; Smoldering; Extinguishment; Fire suppression; Fire growth; Fire spread; Heat transfer; Nonlinear dynamics; Complex systems; Combustion; Biomass energy; Synchronization; Oscillations; EMRIS;

    Sammanfattning : Smoldering fires represent domestic, environmental and industrial hazards. This flameless form of combustion is more easily initiated than flaming, and is also more persistent and difficult to extinguish. The growing demand for non-fossil fuels has increased the use of solid biofuels such as biomass. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Fires in Narrow Construction Cavities : Fire Dynamics and Material Fire Performance

    Författare :Karlis Livkiss; Avdelningen för Brandteknik; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Fire; Ventilated façade; flame height; Stone wool; expanded polystyrene; Fire Dynamics Simulator FDS ;

    Sammanfattning : There have recently been devastating fire incidents related to fire spread over ventilated façades. These incidents indicate gaps in our understanding of the fire behaviour of façades. This thesis takes a bottom-up approach to investigating fire behaviour in materials and elements associated with narrow cavities in modern constructions. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Computational strategies in flame-spread modelling involving wooden surfaces

    Författare :Jörgen Carlsson; Avdelningen för Brandteknik; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; flamspridning; computational methods; pyrolysis modelling; fire modelling; fire growth; flame spread; Computational Fluid Dynamics; CFD; brandtillväxt; brandmodellering; pyrolysmodellering;

    Sammanfattning : Various approaches to flame-spread and fire-growth modelling are discussed and are evaluated using experimental results from different tests. Use of Computational Fluid Dynamics, CFD, in fire modelling is discussed and the performance of different CFD codes in wall flow modelling is analysed. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Determination of Material Properties for Fire Modelling

    Författare :Ulf Göransson; Avdelningen för Brandteknik; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Material properties; Material degradation; Measurements; Fire test data; Byggnadsteknik; Building construction; Teknik; Technological sciences; Fire; Surface temperature; Mathematical modelling;

    Sammanfattning : Fire and flame spread are very complex phenomenon to study. Several aspects need to be considered and treated. In order to be able to do a correct analysis of the flame spread phenomenon, which is necessary to be able to predict flame spread, knowledge of material properties are needed. Material properties can be obtained in different ways. LÄS MER

  5. 5. The Development of a European Fire Classification System for Building Products - Test Methods and Mathematical Modelling

    Författare :Björn Sundström; Avdelningen för Brandteknik; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Building construction; Byggnadsteknik; Teknik; Technological sciences; Brandteknik; Fire Protection Engineering; Conflame; Cone Tools; FDS; CFD; Duhamel?s integral; Fire Growth Rate; FIGRA; Euroclass; SBI; Single Burning Item; Cone Calorimeter; Room Corner Test; fire modelling; Reaction to fire; flashover;

    Sammanfattning : The fire technical properties of products are determining factors for the initiation and growth of fires. Measurement of fire technical properties and the understanding of how they relate to real hazards are therefore important for fire safety. LÄS MER
