1. Determination of absorbed dose in fields of fast neutrons
Sammanfattning : Analytical models have been developed to solve energy deposition problems in finite detectors and near interfaces in beams of fast neutrons. Dose expressions have been derived, which are suitable for numerical evaluation. The detectors or volumes of interest have been characterized by distributions of chord length along which the particles travel. LÄS MER
2. Numerical Study of Laminar, Transitional and Turbulent Flow Past Rectangular Cylinders
Sammanfattning : The subject of flow past slender bluff bodies is of relevance to technical problems associated with energy conservation, structural design and acoustic emissions. The present work is restricted to an important sub-class of slender bluff body flow --- the incompressible flow around a stationary cylinder having a rectangular cross section, the cylinder being exposed to a constant free stream velocity. 3. Radial Basis Function generated Finite Difference Methods for Pricing of Financial Derivatives
Sammanfattning : The purpose of this thesis is to present state of the art in radial basis function generated finite difference (RBF-FD) methods for pricing of financial derivatives. This work provides a detailed overview of RBF-FD properties and challenges that arise when the RBF-FD methods are used in financial applications. LÄS MER
4. A concrete dam assessment approach using probabilistic non-linear finite element analysis and scale model testing
Sammanfattning : Dams are vital infrastructure for society as they provide various services (e.g., flood prevention, storage of byproducts from mining operations, water storage for irrigation and hydropower generation) by the impoundment of liquids. LÄS MER
5. Analysis, Control, and Design Optimization of Engineering Mechanics Systems
Sammanfattning : This thesis considers applications of gradient-based optimization algorithms to the design and control of some mechanics systems. The material distribution approach to topology optimization is applied to design two different acoustic devices, a reactive muffler and an acoustic horn, and optimization is used to control a ball pitching robot.
