    Sammanfattning : This doctoral thesis concerns flanking transmission in light weight, wooden multi-storey buildings within the low frequency, primarily 20-120 Hz. The overall aim is to investigate how the finite element method can contribute in the design phase to evaluate different junctions regarding flanking transmission. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Finite element procedures for virtual tribology

    Författare :Bertil Nilsson; Göteborgs universitet; Göteborgs universitet; Gothenburg University; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Tribology; Reynolds equation; Stokes equation; cavitation; FEM; adaptivity; variational inequality; penalty formulation; error estima- tion; residual; duality.;

    Sammanfattning : The main purpose of this thesis is to use modern goal-oriented adap- tive finite element techniques in order to improve the numerical simulation of tribology. Two novel adaptive finite element methods for the Reynolds thin film model, and Stokes model including cavitation are presented and their different strategies are compared. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Finite Element Procedures for Fluid-structure Interaction

    Författare :Joakim Hermansson; Chalmers University of Technology; []
    Nyckelord :Nitsche s method; stabilized Crouzeix-Raviart; Winslow s method; Raviart-Thomas; space-time FE; stretched elements; FSI; FEM; weak coupling; mesh smoothing; acoustic FSI; ALE;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis concerns finite element (FE) methods for solving fluid-structure interaction (FSI) problems. Two types of fluid-structure interaction are considered. A finite element method for solving the interaction between a flowing incompressible fluid and a linear elastic structure is proposed. The flow is assumed to be laminar. LÄS MER

  4. 4. High-Performance Finite Element Methods : with Application to Simulation of Diffusion MRI and Vertical Axis Wind Turbines

    Författare :Van-Dang Nguyen; Johan Hoffman; Johan Jansson; Axel Målqvist; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; High performance finite element method; computational diffusion MRI; turbulent flow; vertical axis wind turbine.; Datalogi; Computer Science;

    Sammanfattning : The finite element methods (FEM) have been developed over decades, and together with the growth of computer engineering, they become more and more important in solving large-scale problems in science and industry. The objective of this thesis is to develop high-performance finite element methods (HP-FEM), with two main applications in mind: computational diffusion magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and simulation of the turbulent flow past a vertical axis wind turbine (VAWT). Författare :Erik Bängtsson; Maya Neytcheva; Per Lötstedt; Svetozar Margenov; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; FEM; iterative solution method; algebraic multilevel preconditioner; sparse approximate inverse; block preconditioner; Schur complement approximation; nonsymmetric saddle point matrix; isostatic glacial adjustment; pre-stress advection; elasticity; viscoelasticity; in compressible solid; ABAQUS; BEM DDM; Scientific Computing; Beräkningsvetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Robust preconditioners on block-triangular and block-factorized form for three types of linear systems of two-by-two block form are studied in this thesis. The first type of linear systems, which are dense, arise from a boundary element type of discretization of crack propagation problems. LÄS MER
