1. När smärtan blir en del av livet : Livsomställning vid kronisk sjukdom och funktionshinder
Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis is to study the life-changing processes necessary when a person is faced with the demands caused by chronic illness or disability. As subjects for the study, women with chronic pain (fibromyalgi and myofascial pain syndrome), were chosen. LÄS MER
2. Outcome Assessment in Lumbar Spine Surgery
Sammanfattning : No consensus regarding outcomes assessment in spine patients exists. Health-Related Quality of Life (HRQoL) questionnaires are increasingly used. The objective of this thesis was the evaluation of HRQoL measures before and after lumbar spine surgery, and their relation to other evaluation parameters as well as relevance of differences. LÄS MER
3. Chronic musculoskeletal pain: a multifactorial process
Sammanfattning : The aim was to study prevalence, assessment methods, and risk factors of chronic musculoskeletal pain, as well as effects on health status in a general population setting. A postal survey to a representative sample of 3928 subjects aged 20–74 years in 2 municipalities on the west coast of Sweden was followed by clinical examinations of selected subjects, and a three-year follow up survey to 2425 subjects who answered completely to the first. 4. Molecular mechanisms of synaptic transmission and plasticity in spinal sensory pathways
Sammanfattning : An intense, potentially tissue-damaging (noxious) stimulus may lead to enhanced pain sensation of subsequent noxious stimuli (hyperalgesia) and to the perceiving of innocuous stimuli as painful (allodynia). This is thought to result to a large extent from strengthening of synapses established by primary afferent fibers onto spinal cord dorsal horn neurons. LÄS MER
5. Plasticity in mice nociceptive spinal circuits -role of cell adhesion molecules
Sammanfattning : Introduction: To understand the function of the genes and their products in the pain system, studies will have to deal with complex issues related to intercellular communication, e.g. plasticity in neuronal networks. LÄS MER
