  1. 1. Studies on fibrin gel structure

    Författare :Kamaran T Fatah; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Fibrinogen; fibrin gel structure; plasma; thrombin; fibrinolysis; fibrin gel; zinc ion; plasminogen; crosslinking; acetylsalicylic acid; atherosclerosis; coronary heart disease;

    Sammanfattning : Fibrin gel formation is the final result of interaction between multiple plasma proteins; as a result of activation, fibrinogen is converted to fibrin and crosslinking of fibrin occurs by activated factor XIII, which stabilises the formed clot. Fibrin gel networks were studied in purified fibrinogen systems and in plasma samples from patients with cardiovascular complications and healthy individuals, using light-scattering, turbidity, liquid permeation and confocal 3D microscopy techniques. 2. 2. Fibrinogen and susceptibility to myocardial infarction : role of gene-gene and gene-environment interactions

    Författare :Maria Nastase Mannila; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Atherothrombosis; epistasis; fibrinogen; fibrinogen gamma; fibrin clot structure; haplotypes; myocardial infarction; pleiotropy; SNPs;

    Sammanfattning : Fibrinogen, the precursor of fibrin, is a glycoprotein synthesized in the liver and maintained in plasma at concentrations normally ranging between 2-4 g/L. The fibrinogen molecule consists of two sets of three non-identical polypeptide chains, which are encoded by the fibrinogen gamma (FGG), fibrinogen alpha (FGA) and fibrinogen beta (FGB) genes clustered on chromosome 4. 3. 3. Hemostasis and microvascular function in type 1 diabetes : effects of treatment with statin and aspirin

    Författare :Sara Tehrani; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Patients with type 1 diabetes often develop microvascular complications and are at increased risk of premature cardiovascular disease. Women with type 1 diabetes lack the normal female protection against cardiovascular disease and may even be at higher risk compared with men with type 1 diabetes. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Haemostatic changes in plasma for transfusion during preparation and storage

    Författare :Anna-Maija Suontaka; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :transfusion plasma; cold activation; contact system; coagulation; fibrinolysis; citrates; methylene blue; fibrinogen; stability;

    Sammanfattning : The haemostatic quality of plasma for transfusion is liable to be affected by techniques for preparation and storage. We have studied changes in the contact system, coagulation and fibrinolysis under the following conditions: blood drawn into a half-strength citrate anticoagulant solution, virus inactivation of plasma with methylene blue and red light, and plasma storage in the fluid phase. 5. 5. New diagnostic approaches for venous thromboembolism and thrombophilia

    Författare :Maria Farm; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Venous thromboembolism is a serious disease comprising both pulmonary embolism and deep vein thrombosis. Venous thromboembolism causes considerable mortality and morbidity, with residual symptoms such as pulmonary hypertension and post thrombotic syndrome. LÄS MER
