6. Integrated Nanophotonic Devices in Lithium Niobate
Sammanfattning : Lithium niobate (LN) is a ferroelectric crystal offering a broad transparency spectrum, together with excellent electro-optic and nonlinear optical properties. Thanks to them, LN is setting the standard for quantum optics and telecommunications in critical applications such as ultrafast modulation and frequency conversion. LÄS MER
7. Tailored fiber lasers and their use in nonlinear optics
Sammanfattning : The objective of this thesis work was to develop tailored fiber lasers, which meet the pump requirement for efficient continuous-wave (cw) frequency conversion to the visible and the mid-infrared wavelength regimes: a stable, high-power, wavelength-tunable, narrow-linewidth output in a single polarization. As a first step, the prospect of tuning ytterbium fiber lasers over an unprecedented wavelength range, from 980nm to 1100nm, was investigated. LÄS MER
8. Semiconductor Lasers with Gratings Defined by Electron Beam Lithography
Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with the fabrication and characterization of semiconductor lasers with gratings defined by electron-beam lithography (EBL). Both distributed-feedback (DFB) lasers for fiber-optic communication and grating-surface-emitting (GSE) lasers suitable for a number of novel applications, from free-space communication to optical processing, are treated. 9. Laser Remote Sensing for Environmental Monitoring
Sammanfattning : This thesis studies the techniques of laser remote sensing and their applications in environmental monitoring, as documented in several published papers. The environment where the human being live is degrading with an accelerating speed. LÄS MER
10. Technology for photonic components in silica/silicon material structure
Sammanfattning : The main objectives of this thesis were to develop a lowtemperature PECVD process suitable for optoelectronicintegration, and to optimize silica glass composition forUV-induced modifications of a refractive index in PECVDfabricated planar devices. The most important achievement isthe successful development of a low temperature silicadeposition, which for the first time makes it is possible tofabricate good quality low loss integrated components whilekeeping the temperature below 250oC during the entirefabrication process.
