  1. 1. Suberin based polyesters

    Författare :Ann Olsson; Monica Ek; Mats Johansson; Margaretha Söderqvist; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Cellulose and paper engineering; Cellulosa- och pappersteknik;

    Sammanfattning : In the wish to replace oil-based chemicals and materials with such based on biodegradable and renewable resources, this work has been performed. In a biorefinary concept, waste birch bark from paper pulp mills and timber production has been evaluated as a potential source for polyesters. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Continuous-filtering Vernier spectroscopy

    Författare :Chuang Lu; Aleksandra Foltynowicz; Ove Axner; Wei Ren; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; spectroscopy; spectrometer; laser; optical frequency comb; optical cavity; NIR; MIR; flame; robust; time resolution; spectrum; fysik; Physics;

    Sammanfattning : Continuous-filtering Vernier spectroscopy (CF-VS) is a laser-based detection technique that combines the broad spectral coverage of an optical frequency comb (OFC) with the enhanced interaction length provided by an optical cavity. The resonances of the cavity filter the OFC to a small group of comb modes that probe the transitions of the species present in the cavity. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Increased Functionality of Optical Fibers for Life-Science Applications

    Författare :Azizahalhakim Sudirman; Gunnar Björk; Gilberto Brambilla; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Fiberoptics; microstructured fiber; fiber - based optofluidics; laser ablation; microfluidics; reflectometry; fluorescence detection; fiber - based spectroscopy; Fysik; Physics;

    Sammanfattning : The objective of this thesis work is to increase the functionality of optical fibers for possible applications in life-sciences. Optical fibers are a promising technology for use in biology and medicine. They are low-costwaveguides, flexible and have a small cross-section. They can guide high-power light with low loss in a micrometer core-size. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Laser-based absorption spectrometry : development of NICE-OHMS towards ultra-sensitive trace species detection

    Författare :Florian Schmidt; Ove Axner; Livio Gianfrani; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; absorption spectrometry; trace species detection; fiber laser; modulation; cavity-enhanced spectroscopy; optical saturation; laser frequency stabilization; free-spectral-range; Physics; Fysik;

    Sammanfattning : Laser-based absorption spectroscopy (AS) is a powerful technique for qualitative and quantitative studies of atoms and molecules. An important field of use of AS is the detection of species in trace concentrations, which has applications not only in physics and chemistry but also in biology and medicine, encompassing environmental monitoring, regulation of industrial processes and breath analysis. 5. 5. Aspects of Optical Broad Band Spectroscopy and Information Extraction - Applications in Medicine and Ecology

    Författare :Mikkel Brydegaard; Atomfysik; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Fluorescence Spectroscopy; Optical diagnostics; Electro-optics; Applied spectroscopy; Multispectral imaging; Optical spectroscopy; LIDAR; Remote sensing; Environmental monitoring; Chemometrics; Fysicumarkivet A:2012:Brydegaard Sörensen;

    Sammanfattning : The present thesis describes a number of aspects of modern electro-optical measurement technology also known as bio-photonics; this includes instrumentation, applications, sample interaction and data interpretation. The methods employed operate over several domains, and light measurements are discretized both in intensity, space, angle, time, polarization and energy. LÄS MER
